I just purchases a Turrett Pop Up ground blind. My question is what do you guys think about shooting throught the mesh windows?

I have heard many different peoples viewpoints, but like all other situations they aren not speaking from firsthand experience.

Personally, I have never taken that shot. But I have seen people do it and I have seen a for sure miss on a simple 20 yard shot at a doe and i blame it on the mesh because I know the shooter was very capable of making the shot.

I would not try and shoot any expandables for obvious reasons, But after shooting my targets through it i dont think the fixed blade will give me too much trouble. Any input is welcome!

Speaking from experience and not my butt. Last season was my rookie season, I had no trouble with the mesh; but I had a problem with my tent being to small for me , the cam hit the roof and my elboe hit the back, 30" draw. If you are large I would get a bigger tent.
I also had problems seeing the pins clearly as the sun changed through the mesh. I did end up cutting a verticle slit in my mesh, this help tremendously.
Hope this helps. I killed two deer and a turkey my first year with a loss and a hit the feeder leg miss.
oh and I never shot out of a chair until hunting season, bad mistake, there is a lot more muscle involved.

I shot at a target through mine, and didn't like the results. I just leave the window open.

I have a friend that leaves his windows open, I would to but I have to many deer and cant draw back without getting busted. Thank gosh my deer are tamed and forgiving.

I had one last year staring right in the window, and was able to draw back and stick her.

I usually have my windows open directly in front of me. Killed several deer this way and I've had numerous deer within five yards of me that didn't mind. Just wear dark clothing and not much movement, and you shouldn't have a problem

also, i like the vertical slit idea. I am going to experiment lots of different idead when I get the chance and I will be sure to report back.

I have heard that if you just cut tiny slits all over it helps as well to give more and reduce the arrow flight less ( maybe jsut tear up my new investment) but I wanna be successful no matter what and then dang thing has about 30 windows! Thanks guys

Play the windows, close the ones complety you dont need. You will notice quickly that you cant use 1/4 of them.
My buddy uses the carbon spray, his deer are spooky. I wear a black shirt with a black halloween mask. I killed one deer wearing flipflops and shorts, it was so hot in the tent. I bought a battery operated fan at walmart! the vertical slits are nice, you dont need to many.

I close all of my windows except the one I'm shooting out of. Like B-I-L said wear black and you shouldn't have a problem. Also make sure that you brush up the blind as much as you can to help blend it in with whats around you.

How long before hunting out of the blind do y'all set it up? I have a chance to hunt in East Texas next season for the first time and want to make the mst of it. I just picked up the Ameristep G-30 at Cabela's for $50! Score!

If your able to put it out at anytime, I'd set it out well before hunting out of it so that the deer are use to it.

Let me be honest with all you guys.Me and the wife bought one last year from cabalas for 150.00,this was nice.
Set it up the weekend before November.Went out opening morning all excited as you would imagine...PULL THE BLIND OUT OF THE TREE AND ATTEMPTED TO ONCE AGAIN STAKE IT TO THE GROUND BUT IT WAS FUTILE!! Biggest piece of sh*t i ever seen (IMO)!! Any bad weather or thunderstorm comes thru these tie downs are not designed for all that stress.
So we drove into Gonzales to E-Barr's on opening morning mind you and bought "The Blynd" 4x8 for $575.00,threw it in the back of the truck and that was that.Called ameristep about their product...it is now all folded up in it's convenient back pack at the camp.

I have a cheapie pop-up i picked up and will say i've had to do a lot of "black-smithing" on it to keep it functional, but have had some success. I can only seem to get a comfortable shot in mine (the jokes you can get from this line) on my knees. There is plenty of room from the seated position I just can't get comfortable on a shot if the angle is anything other than straight ahead.

...smelled like, victory.

This is going to be a little long. I have been bowhunting from ground blinds for 10 years. I have used double bull, eastman, ameristep and many others. I set mine out in September. I cut them into brush, even shin oak thickets. I hunt out of 1 window. I do hunt at feeders 25 yds. away max. Most 18 to 22 with my 7 and 9yr old. We buy blinds that are black inside and we wear black with black facemask and paint. I only slightly open the other windows to look out of. I draw when I see a deer coming in I want to harvest before he or she gets there. We also position our blinds where we sit in the corners and the open shooting window is slightly offset from straight at the feeder. I draw out of sight of the deer and move into the window drawn. I get to watch deer at 3-7 yards from the blind every weekend. It is great. I wish I could post photo's I have ton's from inside my blind. Set it up according to your prevailing wind during season. I also have 3 blinds that have been standing for 3 years. Tie those blinds down and get the round metal tent stakes to stake them down. I brush them in when I can.

sounds like youve got it all worked out guide! I like the drawing from corners idea, had a little trouble drawing last weekend outof mine but I was thinking when i have deer/turkey approaching i could just move out of my seat and get on my knees to draw. Still perfect height for window and sight. And I have seen lots of videos with people wearing black to match the inside of the blincd and black facemasks; i will be purchasing a black mesh mask soon. Thank for the tips!
try and get some of those pictures up, Id love to see them

pop up was great yesterday evening. set up within 25 yds. of a feeder with a nasty swirling wind and shot hog, had 4 sows and piglets come in and never once look at the blind or pay any attention to my presence, great video!

Good deal. It looks good. If it has pckets in ityou can store your outwear in them on the hunt. When I go down to hunt I leave my clothes in the blind for scent. If you just hunt from 1 window you will be close to game all of the time. I have a 9 yr. old daughter that is going to be videoing for me this year. You need to stake it down with those metal stakes if you are going ot leave it out. Get you a couple packs of DCON Rat killer and put them in your blind. You do not even have to open them. They will eat thru and take care of themselves. If there is a good limb in that tree you can tie the top up. You can use fishing line to tie your brush onto the blind. Just a few tips. Looks Great. Have fun.
