Take a T-post and set it running with the leg angle and all where the T-post is touching the leg of the feeder from top to bottom. Drive the T-post into the ground with the angle of the feeder leg and once it is in a good little way's secure the post to the feeder leg by wrapping wire around the top and the bottom. Cheap quick and effective. I put the motor high enough that the cow's can't reach it and I have yet to have one knock it over like this. Spread the corn just thin enough where the cow's can't pick it up off the ground and they will leave the feeder alone all together. Very rarely will you see a cow try to get a single kernal of corn off the ground. If you pile it up under there then yeah be ready to feed a bunch of cow's.

Sort or like this except you need to angle the T-post with the feeder leg's that way you can wire it to it top and bottom and middle if you like. Top and bottom and it ain't goin' nowhere.

I have read that making a pen with panels is made so much easier if you temporarily strap the panels together with zipwires and get it all set up before driving a single t-post. That way you can adjust the panels where you want them and exactly drive the t-posts, instead of driving first post and measuring where the next one needs to go for each panel. Just in case you decide to do the panels...

You can even do it single handedly by zipwiring the first two panels together and sitting them upright at a somewhat 90 degree angle and then start working form there, adjusting as you go. Sounds easy at least.

Uhhh...Wouldn't the cows still try to eat the corn if it was outside the pen scratch

Think Texas and not Kansas. Spread the corn around and not in piles. If the cows have not been eating corn they will not show up just cause you put it out. You disappoint me sometimes sensei. grin

The cows at my place will...all they have to do us smell it and they will come over and [censored] and slober all over it. If you are having problems with cows, spreading it on the ground might keep them from getting some of it, but it won't stop them from trying.

You must be painting a yellow brick road of corn then.

Nope. Scatter it lightly and they will come. Never had a chum pile that didn't end up with some splatter paint on it.

Will the hog panels be tall enough to keep them out since they already have the taste of corn and soybeans?

For the most part, but every once in awhile you get a "jumper" and they will wreck havoc on your pen and feeder. If you find a jumper already in the pen, don't try to run it out...trust me bang

Texasbuckeye that's a great idea to use zip ties to setup panels prior to installing t posts. That would have never crossed my mind but now I'm gonna use them to ensure the posts get put in the correct place.

Txshntr I hope this holds them out but if for some reason I have a jumper I will remember the advice and not provide assistance bc if they got in they can get out...just crossing my fingers that this doesn't happen

txhunter03 try using concrete wire ties and the tool made for them to put you panels together. It is very fast and much stronger than zip ties.

Yep that cow is is standing belly deep in grass. She would never need any supplement at all. I can't really tell for sure with the dust storm from all the dust she kicked up walking thru though. Is the corn under the layers of dust?

Is it hidden under the broomweeds or do you pull it up so it won't mess up your shots and put it back out after your hunt is over? grin

Try adding "T" posts..about every 6ft of fence...Cows are probably hungry too...also you may want your feeder pens a little
larger so the corn isn't near the edges..DD
