I'm a member but it's been so long since I went duck hunting...well, let's just say that the last time I went, I legally used lead shot.

Silver spurs and gold tequila
keep me hanging on.
Pretty girls and old cantinas
give me shelter from the storm.

I support DU and have been on the local committee for several years on different chapters. I think it depends on the chapter you get on. There is one chapter in the Dallas area that you pretty much got to be a mafia member to be on the committee. A lot of rich people taking control of the chapter and not doing nice things. Then I have been in another chapter of good guys that do a lot of unselfish things and welcome everyone.I believe in the conservation of the habitat but I would like more done to help the duck hunters in Texas. I think they lack effort on that side of the story.

Du is an outstanding organization in my opinion. They absolutely contribute to waterfowl conservation. These days its nice to see an organization dedicated to helping hunters! They are a non profit organization with an annual revenue of 200 million. Over 80% goes straight to conservation efforts every year!

Why's that?

Because a large majority of DU's work is done in those states building habitat all over the place. When the ducks are migrating down they stop at these habitats. When they have plenty of food and habitat they have no reason to go further South. The numbers I see these days compared to 10-15 years ago are fractional even though the numbers of ducks are up.

just my 2cents

Yes Missouri and Kansas get a lot of attention from DU with their rest areas...when mild winters take place, with available food, water, and no pressure those ducks won't migrate any further south....ducks are wintering in Kansas and Missouri where 15 years ago they didn't stay around

DU is good, but I prefer Delta. More science, less opinion.
