I would really like to start bow hunting. I have a weird situation, I am right handed but my left is dominate. Will this be an issue for me? does anyone out there have this same issue? which bow should i get a left handed or a right handed?

Thank you for the input.

You should probably shoot both and go with what works for you.

Shoot left handed, you will have issues with sight alingment trying to shoot a right handed bow.

Go anywhere that has shooting lanes and see what works for you. That is weird. You sure as heck cant shoot right handed using your left eye.

There was another thread with the same discussion on this topic so other info may be found there. Im left eye dominant but Im right handed. I shoot firearms right handed and over the course of several years (pistol shooting) Ive learned to use my right eye instead of my left for shooting, have always shot rifles right handed/right eye. However I shoot a right handed bow, Im not left handed and can't manipulate a bow or firearm nowhere near as quickly and smoothly as I do with my right hand. I haven't had any issues shooting right handed with my bow. I would say shoot both at a range and see which direction will work best for you.

I wouldn't worry about pulling back with a "weak" side. I know folks that shoot competition and shoot both left and right.

To do it right, go shoot the same bow but a left and right handed model, like someone mentioned earlier. Make sure they're set very similar in draw tension. Find which is more accurate and more comfortable to draw. I think you'll find it much easier than expected to draw left handed.

Im right handed and left eye dominate. I shoot right handed and close my left eye with no problems. I suggest you shoot right handed.

OK, here is my family situation:

1. I am right handed, left footed, and left eye dominant
2. I have three sons: ALL three are left eye dominant but only one is left handed.

So there are four of us - all left eye dominant but only one left handed.

We ALL shoot rifles and bows left handed without any problem whatsoever.

I promise you that if you shoot a left handed bow within half an hour it will become completely natural for you because your dominant eye is really the basis for how you shoot.

I shot for years right handed and finally in my 40's I tried going the other way and wish I had done it 30 years earlier.

Trust me on this and try shooting left handed. I really believe that you will not regret it.

BTW - although we have 6 left handed bows in our house, all of our rifles are RIGHT HAND models. Shooting a right handed rifle left handed is the best of both worlds - you get to use your dominant left eye but yet your dominant hand is free to work the bolt.

Although I shoot both bows and rifles left handed, I only use a left handed bow but continue to shoot right handed rifles. Sounds mixed up but it really works well.

Let us know how it goes. I bet you will not regret going that way. Like I said, I had an uncle who talked me into shooting left handed about three years ago. I wish I had done it MANY years ago.

I am glad I am not the only odd ball out there. I shoot rifle left handed, pistol right handed but with left eye and bow right handed with left eye, I write left handed but throw a ball right handed. I guess you could say I am a hodge podge
