Just wondering what everyone thinks of this new Remington. I am looking to purchase in 25-06 for Deer/Hogs. My only concern is weight...it will weigh about 9.75 lbs with scope and mounts. Yes, I primarily sit in a stand but would also like the ability to hike with no problems...it is only 1.75 lbs heavier than my wife's Remington CDL in 25-06 so I think I should be fine. Let me know what ya'll think in general and about weight...below are 2 links for the rifle info. I really like the idea of a 26inch, heavy, free floating barrel...so you can see why it is a little heavier.

I bought a Remington SPS Varmint in 7mm-08 which is basically the same except the short action version. It is pretty heavy with the 26" heavy barrel and scope, but I am going to have the barrel shortened to 22". I really like mine much better than the ADL I had before.

I have a sendero, 26" barel, I love it, it makes a good blind gun, just be careful sticking it out the window. I never mind carying it to much, put a nice sling on it and throw it over your shoulder, once there a pound aint gonna matter.

I've wandered around 2 ~ 7 miles a day for years while hunting carrying a 10 lb rifle, 4lbs of water & +/- 2 lbs of other stuff.
If an old phart like me can do it anyone can.

Buy the rifle you want then get a good sling.

Love my Sendero also. About the only drawback of the heavy barrels is free-hand shooting. It can be done, just not as comfortable as the regular contour barrels.

I checked with the Cabelas near me and they do not have any in stock yet. I would have to pay before holding it which is the main reason I posted. $640. Thanks for everyone's thoughts thus far!

I didn't ask that. He said they have some at their warehouse and their distributor has quite a few. A firearm specialist from Cabelas is supposed to call me this weekend I think. 1-888-474-4867 is the Cabelas firearm ordering/info line. I was told by my local Cabelas to call that # for more info because they had 38 in 25-06 in their warehouse and from what he was saying it would be 1 per store. So maybe they will be shipping 1 per store for each caliber...not sure. I am guessing soon...doesn't sell if it is sitting in their warehouse!

I was thinking the same thing rifleman. The 25-06 definately has a modorate kick but I know it could benefit from the longer barrel with a muzzle velocity of 3200 FPS (with 100GR TSX). Longer barrel = heavier...and then not only is it longer but it is also a heavy barrel. So I guess it would even kick less...no such thing as too little kick IMO lol. Plus if I ever chose to use it for varmints only down the road...thats an 85GR 3500FPS muzzle velocity round. I have always been a die hard 270 fan myself because that's what I grew up shooting and the ballistics are amazing. I really liked shooting my wife's 25-06 last year on some pigs though.

$620 for a production R 700 is more than reasonable.

I'd be curious to see the quality of the stock i.e. is does the barrel have plenty of clearance and is the stock plenty rigid?

From the pictures I have seen it looks like the stock that was used on the SPS Varmint and VTR just with a spiderweb effect, if so then it is free floated but its not very rigid at all. On the bright side for around 250 sipped you can drop it in a Bell & Carson up

Not sure...in the video they say they used different materials for the stock than their other lines.

Guess the B & C is a pretty good stock since I keep seeing them brought up. I couldn't get one because I couldn't find one left handed. I was very happy with my money saver Stockade gunstock for the same money though.

Pretty much the same quality as HS just a little cheaper.
