In this case I'm talking specifically about TXU/Luminant land that has been mined and in the reclamation process for more than 20 years. I feel like if the government can force people to sell this land, then they should let the public hunt on it until its ready to be sold back to the original owners. Atleast allow drawn hunts.

If it's private land, the government shouldn't be able to force anybody to do anything.

I couldn't do it. It's already been taken from the owners now to add insult to injury you want to hunt it before the original owners can get it back? Not even remotely cool.

It's just that some of that land has been in the reclamation process for 40 plus years... I've heard that the original owners get first shot at buying it, but when will it be sold back to them? Makes me wonder if they even plan on selling it back.

But I want something for nothing and I want the government to take it from someone else and give it to me.

I never said anything about government hand-outs or wanting anything for free. Most public hunting areas require an APH permit and drawn hunts have fees associated with them as well in case you are not familiar with that process.

NOONE should be able to STEAL your land...Welcome to the real world of Imminent Domain. Remember Gov. Perry's attempt at the largest land -grab in Texas history, the Trans-Texas corridor? It doesn't matter your political persuasion...Both sides are crooked.

I'm out at all these locations on a regular basis and I can tell you they are over run with deer. I know I don't want the gov getting involved. Having said that, if they put a draw hunt in the TPWD book, I'm all over it.

Real bummer for the original owners! I'd hate it if someone tried to take land away from me or my family. I guess you'd learn what it feels like to be powerless.

As far as the whole ordeal with imminent domain goes, it is a subject that no one likes, sucks for the original owners but it is designed for the greater good of the populus. IMO, without it a lot of lakes, schools, highways, parks, stadiums, etc. that we use everyday wouldnt be possible. I agree it would really suck to lose family land that has been passed down for generations.

In this case, I think the OP is saying that since it is already done, the land is already taken, and there isnt much anybody can do about it.....why not let it be part of a public hunting program where you pay to hunt it. If you have ever been to the land that the mines owns, you know it is insanely full of game. People go to crazy measures to sneak on the land and poach. My dad has shown me pictures where he is 10 yards away from huge bucks. It is widely known that it would be a great place to hunt, why not let somebody use it. Heck do a draw hunt and give the $ to the original land owners. Let them hunt it first.

I see what he is saying, and dont see where anybody asked for a handout. Probably have a diff opinion on the matter if it was my land that was taken.

My family knows about this first hand. A huge chunk of my families property is under lake Palestine that used to belong to my great great grandfather. My grandma and great uncle tell me about how all the siblings tried to fight against it and lost long after their dad passed...from what I understand they were never compensated either.

I've been dealing with another situation where the owner of a larger piece of property bordering my uncle’s place stole about 8 acres of property from my great uncle some years back. While I was younger and away in college I was always hearing of them feuding over a fence line the other landowner placed on a portion of our property.

In recent years I've grown a bit closer to my great uncle who's given me more details of the situation. Over the last year I have tried to get some lawyers to help pursue the issue. I went to the courthouse and found false deeds and everything from way back in the 80's that no one was aware of that was sign over to him by some so called owner residing in England…not Tanner who is the actual owner. The lawyers I’ve talked to told me that in spite of all this, there was little that we could do because of how long it's been. To top it all off the other landowner died a few years back and his wife sold the property to a guy from Jacksonville who probably knows nothing about all this.

It's been a tough ordeal trying to resolve some of these issues for my elders, but when you look at it they've lost so much already over the years through neglect and not enough education and understanding of land laws. Sucks big time!

When the government takes something, history tells us it typically requires bloodshed to get it back.....

The property they lost that was flooded was norteast of Franston by the southern most part of the lake near the dam...it included some of the park area around the dam.

The current property we've been dealing with is right down the road from the former place heading towards Frankston going west on 175.

Yea it is rough because I haven't yet told him what the lawyers said. A 92 years man who's known all the origional boundaries of the place and has lived there most of his life is NOT going to understand how some of his property now belongs to someone else when he didn't sell it. Been talking to him on the phone but i'll fill him in that when I get there next week.
