ok, lost alot of kids in the past month but couldn't ever get the trapper to pay attention to me, said "the 6 dead goats we found are to far gone to tell what got em" "maybe we didn't gather right"..."maybe they got through a fence"....BS..we gathered every pasture and were 26 short...a month after that...the total is now up to over 80 kids short in 4 out of 12 pastures .Now we found a fresh kill to show him and he says its coyotes..never had em before. SO, I have a foxpro firestorm and the ole mojo critter I use, plannin on setting up at dusk and dawn, sun to the back in the shade....full camo and facepaint...maybe even the ole ghillie suit.. Any additional suggestions on calling sequence or best calls???

That's a shame. Might try fawn in distress or you might even try and find goat kid in distress. Seems like I've heard they make that sound. Either way, good luck rifle

This happened to my grandad a few years back. He couldnt keep the yotes away. I ended killing 6 in about a month and my uncle and bro got some too. I killed all but one of these 6 by just sitting and waiting in the evening, no calling. They seemed to have a trail right at the back of my grandads property and were stopping by for a snack on a regular basis. The goat in distress would be good but if they are that thick and hungry they are going to come to any distress call you got. Good luck!

Also, I seem to have the best luck where I hunt with a cottontail or jack in distress.

Do all these pastures have predator wire on them? I know it doesn't stop them, but I'm wondering if you do because you can set snares on the holes where they are digging under. That is the most effective way I have had of controlling varmints. You will catch bobcats like that too.

My grandad bought a Great Pyreneese(sp?) a couple of years ago and has not lost a single goat or sheep since.

If its a fresh kill and still meat left. Set up down wind of it
they will come back around dark or after ive done this before
And it works most of the times.

yeah, we have gaucho wire on the bottom of most of the fences except some of the neighboring fence lines. We snare as much as possible but also do alot of different things that keeps us busy. Usually on the coyotes, we have kills in the county and the send a helicopter in and get em...It's a big ranch so finding the exact trail might be tough. I'm gonna sit in a few of the pastures where the killings happened but with this heat it might be tough to get anything to come in.

We had the same problem about 9 years back. Had a mom with pups that was coming in and killing our goat kids. I was able to just sit at dusk and take her out, but we ended up getting a llama for 2 of our pastures, and a burro for a third pasture.

They were the best long term coyote and dog deterrents we found, and the llama even got a coyote a couple years back. Good luck, and hope you can get em. I would try a fawn bleat, or even just grab a kid and keep it from its mom, that calling should bring in a coyote in the evening.

yeah, i went out that morning and got into a good spot on a hill at around 6:15 AM. Called for about an hour and got nothing but I had fun and sweated my butt off. Guess i need to put the hunting rack in the truck and do a little night hunting. I need to get a turkey chair, i'm 6'3" and sitting on the ground with just a cushion is tough! Can't believe i didn't even get a fox to respond

Kid in a cage making noise is the ticket.

Try to find where they are going to water and set up there. They tend to water any time between 9pm and midnight during the summer then feed from midnight to 6am (not always the case but most likely when it's hot). Try coy pup dist 3 or canine pup 2 for 6-7 minutes then pause for 2 then hit it again. Otherwise stick to you rabbit and woodpecker sounds, if you have lucky bird I've seen them hit on that too.

PM sent.

We have a lot of goats as well. If you can make the little "ma" sounds, you don't even need a call. Try "map map" quickly, and try to make it sound like the kids. If you can get that "map map" to a high pitched sound, take out the 'P' and do a "maaa maaaeeeee". Make it sound like the little ones when you grab them to cut them. Once you get that down, try to fluctuate the "a's". MaAaA MaAaAaA MaAaAaAaAaAAAA MAAAAAAAAA MAAAAA MaAaAa MaAa MaAa. I've killed a lot of coyotes like that, and you can also use it to call in Doe early season.

Try it in the truck a few times. If you can get it high pitched it won't hurt your throat and you can call in coyotes and cats without a call. if you have kids, that's what I would use..

Went calling one more time and still didn't get anything.... Up at 5 and out of the pens at 7:30PM hurt the hunting. I think with the heat they are probably out at night anyway....Took the high rack out there but never got a chance to take it out. We got about 1700 goats sheared and drenched and a little over 900 kids weaned, drenched and vaccinated!

You might have better luck next weekend between 3am and 6am. The moon shouldn't be a problem and it'll be the coolest part of the evening in the yotes should be most active.

Sounds like you sheared good. Haven't had hair goats on our place since the 90's and just got rid of all our meat goats. Good luck with your hunting. I called from 5 till just after sun up this morning and got a fox and a bobcat, no yotes.

One thing i have noticed when calling is to start off fairly softly. Most people turn their call up as load as it will go and blow the area out.
