I have owned neither, but I owned two XD's and loved them. Never liked the feel of a Glock in my hands, but have never shot one either.
Guess I'm no help, but IMO go with the XDM.

I shot my buds XD 40 full size and put 5 rounds in the same hole at 10 yds!
I thought I could shoot my Glock and Sig good, then I shot the XD.
I am now looking to get a XDM 45 compact 3.8.
I haven't heard much, if any good about the Gen 4 Glocks too.

I have XDm 4.5's in .40 (bi-tone OD and black) and .45 ACP (bi-tone stainless and black). Love them both, they are more accurate than I can shoot them and so far after almost 1000 rounds through each have had zero failures. I can definitely recommend them.
Now I just have to find one in 9mm.
Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large numbers

Guess I'm going against the grain here, but I liked my Glock 22 much more than my XDm 40. Was more accurate with it and it felt better in my hand. Ended up selling the XDm and buying a baby Glock. Guess it's all about how it feels to shoot, though, so it's just my personal preference

I like both Glock and the xdm's. Straight out of the box I like the xdm trigger better, but I still choose to stay with Glock. Hard choice in my opinion. Just get the one that feels most comfortable for you.

This is the one most important piece of info there is.. Just get the one that feels most comfortable for you. Does not matter what we suggest between those 2 choices. NOW, if you were asking an open brand model caliber question I could see more opinions being needed and expressed.

I'd shoot both. I tried to hate my XD and I can't. Now I leave my G22 at home...and my M&P. The XD is a wonderful shooter.
I wouldn't go just by the hand feel. I'd go shoot them, then decide. Or buy one of each. No law against that...yet.

Well after feeling out both of them,
The g22 gen4 kind of felt like my hand was at an angle And my trigger finger didn't fit right.
The xdm .40 (4.5) felt a whole lot better in the hand, Had a more up right and straight feel to it.
Went with xdm .40 (4.5) bi tone. Thanks for all comments I was really just trying to decide what caliber to get but I think the .40 will be good with me. (had a g21 .45 and didn't like it is some of reason I asked because of gen4)

My G19 is my favorite pistol Haven't shot the XD's at all, but I'll never sell my G19.
PS, either get the 40 or the 9mm. The 357 sig is the most (IMO) the msot worthless caliber known to man. Nothing wrong with it, but the extra costs, and no real benefit.

I was in the market for either G17 or an Xdm 9mm. Went to the range and rented both, after which I went and bought the Xdm 9mm. Shooting them side by side, the xdm had a much better trigger IMO, also has a higher mag capacity 19+1.
