Lets say Im driving down the road and pass a piece of property that looks nice. How do you find out through public records who owns a piece of land?

Every county clerk should have a web page, and their tax records are public. Land can be tough to search though, you need an address or owner name to search, for instance. May be quicker to stop and ask a neighbor.

If theres a store or coffee shop nearby, pull in and ask the old timers..... more than likely one of them will know.. That works a lot back home for me.

Some counties have an online parcel map on the appraisal district website, too.

You can search by address, an if you don't know the address, find the nearest one and type it in and move the map from there. It will show the owners name and mailing address for the parcel in question.

Then just look up there number on whitepages.com by name and city, if it is listed.

It can be a pain, but is still easier than a trip to the tax office.

My problem with this statement is when you say most... most dont have it online. Hi dollar counties, bexar, guadalupe, travis, whatever county dallas and houston are in etc. will, but alot of counties are not that up to date.

Easiest way is to stop at the nearest house and ask, most will know. If that doesn't work, record the mileage from the nearest intersection and go to the county tax office. There you will be able to look at a county platt map, find the property, and be able to look up the owner in the county records (there is usually a computer in the office for folks look up records with). Should also be able to get the address and phone number.

this is the best way.

get the property ID number and plug it into true automation.

this will give you landowner info. will also give you tract sizes and tax valuation

I just talked to Jen, she knows this stuff. Most TX counties do have data online, but there are some that don't. The data is still public, so you can go to the courthouse and do the research yourself, for free. If you want to pay someone to do that for you, that's what Jen does.

I have several pieces of land and I get phone calls occasionally asking if I want to sell. It's aggravating to say the least. If I wanted to sell, I'd put up a sign or list it with a realtor. Some folks might not mind being bothered, but I do.

back when we used to eat housecats we marinated them in louisiana hot sauce and soy sauce then season them with lemon pepper........then onto the grill slow cooking them 3 hours........excellent folded in tortillas and pico de gallo----Newgulf

Many of the midwest states, it is easy. There is a map on the internet that has all the information you need.
