IMR 4350 and H4831SC are the 2 I have used. Of the 2 I like H4831SC for the stability across temperature ranges.

Jack O'Connor shot most everything in North America with his .270 from the 1930s to the 1970s. He usually favored the 130 gr bullet behind 60-62 gr of "No. 4831."
Even today, H-4831 is still giving fine results for .270 shooters even though the surplus stocks of military 4831 have mostly dried up.

Mostly IMR 4831, about 60grains w/130 grain projectile...unless you are loading Barnes...then use their manual..DD

I've loaded 59.7 grns of H4831 under many 130grn bullets for 20 years.
I still have some of that left, mostly use the H4831SC (Short Cut). Flows through the powder measure much easier.

any of the 4831's usually work good in an '06 based round.

I use 59 gr of H4831sc. Winchester cases and CCI BR4 primers. Nosler 130 gr Ballistic Tips. My load is above max in some books, but DonDial's load (mentioned above) of 60 gr of the faster IMR 4831 is above max in just about everybody's loading book. That's a hot one that a lot of rifles won't handle.

As others noted, start with H-4831. You will get better velocity out of other powders these days, but H-4831 is the classic. Others to try are RL-22,IMR-4831, Ramshot Hunter, Accurate Magpro, and RL19. Never used much 4350 in the .270, but this is good powder as well, particularly with 130s.

I have 2 Remington and 1 Savage .270. I don't use the same powder in any of them as they've all liked different powders. One gets IMR4350, One gets IMR4895 and the other IMR4064. I use 130grain Sierra GameKings(1820) in all three rifles. Thru trial and error I've manged to get all three rifles to shoot MOA or less.

I had loaded 130gr Nosler ballistic tip at 53.5 with IMR 4350 but will be upping that at some point just hadn't time to test what I've loaded. I believe Nosler lists max at 55gr.

My 270 LOVES IMR-4350. I tried RL-22, 4831, and a few others but could not duplicate the accuracy that I got with 4350. Shooting Nosler 130 grain BT's and just changing powder.

I shoot H 4350 through mine, I started with 4831, but the 4350 seems to work better.

My dad loved to read about Jack O'Connor. I shoot a 270 130 gr accubond but still use jack's 62 grs of 4831 (IMR and H) Jack O'Connor shot most everything in North America with his .270 from the 1930s to the 1970s. He usually favored the 130 gr bullet behind 60-62 gr of "No. 4831."

Hodgdon's claims of temperature tolerance with the "Extreme" line of powders is based on fact. Either of the 4350s will do anything the other will, until you start shooting loads developed in 100-degree temperatures when it's nearer to 20 degrees...but why would you not take advantage of temperature tolerance when it's right there in your grasp? I'd go with the Hodgdon offering any day of the week.

RR: I agree with your logic. If you're starting from scratch, no reason not to go with "H".
In my case, I have been using IMR for decades and have accurate loads developed with several different rifles. I generally hunt in moderate temps, anyway. So no need to start load development all over.
To the OP, IMR (or) H4350 and H4831 are the classic powders for the 270. I'd start with one of them and see what your rifle likes.

Accuracy- 4350, speed- 4831 or R22. H4350? Or IMR4350? Either. I have used IMR4350 for years in my 270 Win, and it works great. The H4350 is also a good one, and I have been running it in my 260 Rem. The temprature stability is nice.

60.2 gr of 4831 proved to be the magic load for with with Win cases, CCI 200 primers, and 130 gr Hornady Interbonds. Chronos just shy of 3,000 out of my 22" barrel.

I use RL 22 very for my 130 gr nosler partitions It does seem on the slower end of the spectrum for this caliber...i use magnum primers although they maynot be neccesary.
