I'm pretty new to bow hunting. I was wondering. How do the deer not see you on a tripod? Do all tripods have a wrapping around them of some material? I haven't researched much into what places sell but what I have seen some tripods are fully open to where the deer could see you.

Just like a tree stand you won't to brush in your tripod.

I do a lot of bowhunting out of tripods and have had lots of success. I set up my tripod where there is a good background to break up my silhouette and leave some limbs in front of me to where I have shooting lanes and never just full open, but never use wrap (hinders your ability to move). Slow steady movements and patience is a must because you don't have the concealment of a pop-up. My homemade tripods are also only about 9 feet to the seat so they work well in the mesquite and hackberry trees I hunt around.

Back them into the limbs of a tree. A tree not big enough to self support a stand can still provide cover for a tripod.

I try to put my tripods behind trees to break my outline up, but try to make sure I have a real heavy background behind my tripod. Also be sure to do your best in getting it in the shade. When possible I run guy wire or attach light cattle panels to trees surrounding the stand and attach cedar & other limbs to the panels then cut holes out of the panel. It works great and conceals your movement by ten fold.

Like the others said, gotta use trees as a background. I usually try to find a pocket with lower trees and taller trees and I station my pod in the middle of them using the smaller trees as my front cover. Shade is key also. It will help conceal movement. I killed a dandy buck last year out of a tri pod.

I have bunch of tripods for sale $80. May need some repair but they originally could hold 350 lbs. I may make a better deal if you buy more than 1. I think we have about 10 at least.

i just put one up between 3 trees gonna use the trees to put the material up in so it's gonna be about 5 feet away from me which will not hinder my movement at all... just something you might wanna think about if you don't have trees with low hanging limbs as an option

In my opinion, the easiest to hunt out of:

1. Tree stands (hang on or climbers)
2. Brushed in pop ups
3. Tripods set up inside of mesquite or other "scraggly" trees

I would rate Tripods higher, but most of them are not more than 10' high. That is really the limiting factor on them - it's not that they are "tripods" but that they are fairly low to the ground.

I hunt out of some, but it is definitely more of a challenge to draw back in them.

It is really hard to beat a 20' high hang on tree stand that is well concealed.

Well there are a few reasons why but a few years ago I quit putting hunters in tripod stands. It allows me to sit with the hunters if I need to. I think they get away with more movement and some of our hunters want to film their hunts now so they can take more gear with them and be a little more comfortable as well. We prefer to hunt from the ground but If I can get some box stands made that are 3-4' off the ground, that would work as well.

I hunt out of 16' tripods backed into trees and brushed in where needed as has been discussed already. You can get higher ones but most of my trees aren't really tall enough to mask them so 16' is as high as I can realistically go.

If they are accustomed to seeing, they will pay it little mind. However, they will spot movement if you are not well concealed, and may anyway. I've had good success with a tri-pod, but can't over-state the importance of remaining still.

Thanks everyone. From what I read you just put them in trees and cut out a spot in the limbs to see. Sounds good.
