I noticed the photo looked fishy so I did some investigation and found it to be photoshopped. Here is the orginal. This was an attempt to cover up the proof of the black Mtn. Lion seen and photographed in the United States by hunter Warner Glenn which was bayed by hounds during a hunting trip at an unknown location in southwestern New Mexico, February 20, 2006.

Hmmm...and here I thought it was the yellow spotted variation of the black mountain lion. Thanks for the clarification BradyBuck60. Silly me.

I wonder why it took over two years to post the picture?

This may have something to do with it.

Well if there can be normal Jaguars in America, and they do have Black Phase Coats (black dots on black)...couldn't there be a black one wild?

If anyone doesn't believe in black jaguars, they need to go to the Dallas World Aquarium, they have one, and very big black one.

One of the reasons the pictures that have been taken of the jaguars that have been crossing from Mexico to Arizona, have been so long in getting published, is to protect the animals (that is according to the Feds).

I remember seeing some game cam pictures from a field researcher in southern Arizona of a jaguar 4 years ago.

One of the people that used to be at Fort worth was the co-ordinator or something like that for the jaguar S.S.P. of the American Zoological Association.

When the studies in Arizona/Mexico and Central America began, I remember going by this guys office one day and he had received a shipment of 100 or 150 game cams and he and his staff were getting them ready for distribution to the field biologists.

Glad to see they didn't shoot it. Don't know if I would have that much control.

That is one big kitty!

We have enough youth. How about a fountain of "smart"?

When you take time to realize that the disciplinary actions that would result from shooting a Jaguar, would run into time in jail and multiples of $10,000 in fines, it is really easy not to pull a trigger.

They are beautiful animals.

So is it a real picture or not? There have been pics. on game cams that i have seen that were indeed REAL. So if someone happen to come across one, would it be a crime in Texas to shoot one? We can shoot Bobcats and Mountain Lions at will, so what about a Jag if one was spotted somewhere?

Warner Glen ( the tall lanky cowboy who's been on some of the Ruger adds thru the years) has been chasing cats with hounds for 50 plus years in Southern Arizonia. In that time on 3 different occasions he has treed or cornered a Jaquar. He wrote a book about it some time ago called "Eyes of fire". I haven't read the book but I've followed alot of his writings on the subject.

It is a real picture of a real jaguar, and they are protected as an Endangered Species in the U.S., and are also covered under the C.I.T.E.S. (Convention on International Trade of Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora).

Bobcats in Texas are only covered if you try to sell the pelts.

Mountain Lions, TP&W only wants to know where and when it was killed, and maybe the sex of the animal.

Just be sure that when you report a black panther sighting or mortality, when they ask about sex, you refrain from answering with yes or no....

Yep, I saw the pic on yahoo too. I have a ranch for sale (see forum "Land, Leases") a few miles from SE New Mexico where this photo was taken. They say there are Elk, Blk bear and Jaguar from Mexico coming over but I have not seen any.
