Hey, I have a very nice sako 223 that I got in a trade. I believe its a 1:10 twist. I would like to run some factory ammo through it. It does not like anything below 50 gr. It does shoot Win ball silver tip 50 very well but hard to find. I have not tried anything above 50 gr yet so hoping you have some suggestions. Will be shooting varmints have shot hogs with no problems (ear) drops em. and will use for meat hunts.
I have considered reloading but time is a issue and concentrate my efforts larger calibers for that. Thanks

Dont tell me you shot the 4 point for the meat when there are does all around.

Get you some of this -

It's in LC brass, so save the brass. I find that this stuff shoots well in my 223 bolt gun and my ar15.

For varmit and head/neck shots on deer and hogs I had really good luck with 55 grain v-max, they were very accurate in my rem, produced raged hole groups.

Only other thing I have shot are the 60 grain NP's and it doesnt sound like that is what your looking for. Oh and the rem 55 grain soft points.

I was not a fan of them in my 223. They shot good and expanded well, but I had to stop at 53 grains due to the twist in my gun. I couldnt get them to pass through anything, and I like blood trails. I never had a problem ever with the 60 grain Nosler Partitions, they go through everything I shoot at, and actualy shoot a little better for me than the barnes, its just the reloader in you that has to go out trying new stuff.

Most curious. Most of the newer .223 rifles have even faster twist rates to support the longer bullets ( most folks read this as heavier, where there is a correlation if you are talking about similar construction, i.e. lead core, jacketed ). I have a colt in 1:7 that still fires 50 and 55 grain well, as well as a couple RRA in 1:8 or 1:9 that fire 50 and 55 well. They both fire the sierra 69gr match very well. The 1:10 should work well with the lighter bullets ( read shorter )
If you try any of the copper bullets be warned that they will require a faster twist rate as they are longer than a lead bullet of simialr weight.
