My dog was limping today and I noticed he has about a dime sized piece missing from the large pad on his back foot. It's about as thick as a dime as well, exposing the soft smooth layer underneath. It was bleeding because there's a little blood on the porch, but it seems to be good now. Just a little pink.

He's limping much less now. Should I just let it be?

Thanks

I would keep it clean, treat for infection and of course keep an eye on it. Watch pup for changes in general behavior to make sure no complications develop.

Thanks. I will do all of that. Of course this happens when I am boarding him tomorrow while we go on a 10 day vacation.

OH! Be careful, then. Make sure the place you're leaving him will actually take care of the wound!

My SWMBO and I run a doggie day care at home if you're looking for someone to care for the pup.

I'm a little late here, but I'd get him to the vet for some anti-biotic before I left, to make sure no infection sets in.
