Wanted to say hello and introduce myself. I was lurking for while, then joined the fun.
I been shooting for a while, but never hunted. Wanted to do some hog hunting, but never took the opportunity to do it.
Bought a old Marlin 30-30 and have a Savage heavy barrel 243 that I used for a couple bench rest competitions. Not sure either of those are going to do the trick for all the game i am interested in. I am looking forward to booking a Nilgia hunt some time.
So I am starting to look for a new rifle to handle a little bit of everything. Thinking 270, 7mm-08, 30-06. Also have the crazy idea to get back into archery. Did it a little as a kid, no hunting though.
Guess that is enough, or maybe too much!
Thanks for letting me join and all the great information that you have shared.
Matt

Glad to have you, welcome. Can't go wrong witht he .30-06, good variety of bullet weights for various game. Getting back into archery is always a good thin, never heard a good reason not too.

Welcome Matt. Don't believe all these guys tell you. We got one guy that will tell ya it takes a 300 Winchester Magnum to kill a coon or coyote. I ain't saying who it is but he use to be on TV when I was A kid.

Thanks for the warm welcome. I may buy two (7-08 and 30-06), but lately I am leaning to just the 270 or the 7-08. I do hate to drop the cash on two plus glass, when the money for the second rifle could pay for a hunt.
I am still getting used to idea of paying to hunt. I'm from Illinois and there is (or was when i was a kid), way more open land or land owners that were willing to let you hunt their land for free. Different times I guess.

Welcome! My vote: get them all you can never have enough rifles. x2 If you had to pick one I would go with 30-06 I have the 243, 30-06, and 7mm-08 from your list there and 30-06 is probably the best all around gun there is. good luck and welcom
