Ill be attending West Texas A&M this coming fall and would like some tips on duck hunting. Im not asking for anyones spots just looking for some tips, ideas, or general places to go. Also, what kind of decoys are good? I know back home its mainly mallards and woodies.
Any help is much appriciated.

First off you need to PRAY for rain. Its so dry out here that if we dont get rain soon, there will be no duck hunting unless youve got access to a large lake. Every playa is dried up and the city playas are slowly diminishing too.
But....when we get rain just go put a tank of gas in your truck, grab a map, and start driving around to find playas. When you find one, go to the nearest house and ask if they know who owns the property, and ask for permission. Yeah you will get shot down, but most of the time they wont care and will allow you to hunt there. Just make sure to treat them with respect and clean up after yourself.
Its not that hard to get a place out here you just have to spend the time and money to go door to door and ask. Oh and decoy wise, keep the mallards, ditch the woodies, and buy some pintail and teal. Im in Lubbock and shot 2 wood ducks last year, and that was only on the first 2 weeks of season. You would think no trees=no wood ducks but i guess there are some randos in the bunch
-If I buy any more waterfowl hunting stuff this year I'll be eating cat food and crackers for dinner.

You could call the Plainview Chamber of Commerce and ask them about places to hunt. usually they have some landowner information.
