Still have every gun I've ever bought/been given, except 2. I traded a Remington 870 I won in a sporting clays tournament for a bolt-action 10-guage I used for crane hunting. Also had a Winchester 9422 stolen that I'd really like to have back. First deer was taken 30 years ago with my dad's Remington 700 ADL .30-06 and Weaver scope. He still has it and I'll end up with it. My first deer rifle was a Remington 7400 .30-06 given to me for graduation.

I saved up and bought my Remington 600 from K Mart for 89.00, in 308 because after all the Field and Stream etc. magazines I had read I decided I could hunt anything in North America with it. My uncle took me to shoot my first doe, his boys had the same gun in 222 and when I touched that thing off he went through the roof!, he thought it was a 222 also…I shot lots of deer with that but it sure kicks since its so light.

Just because you haven't been huntin' your whole life doesn't mean you don't want to spend the rest of your life huntin'.

I do but I don't use it anymore, it stays in the safe. A pre-64 winny model 70 in .270 manufactured sometime in the 1950s. My Grandfather bought it new right after he graduated college. I probably will hunt with it some when I am older, but I don't right now because I like to run around the woods to much and don't want to mess it up.

Daddy gave me a Remi 700 in .243 and a marlin 30-30 that I still alternate today. Wouldn't dream of getting rid or either one.

I got a Savage .223 for Christmas when I was 12, then bought a Ruger MKII in .30-06 (killed my first deer with). I have others that I hunt with now but will never part with those.

My first was a Remmy 700 in 6mm with a 4x Weaver. Still in the family as I passed it on to my kid brother. He killed his first deer with it at 14 and I never got it back! So I treated myself to a Sako 270 to replace it.

In 1967, when I was 13, I shot at a deer with my .410 with a slug and missed. So Dad decided my brother and I needed "real" deer guns. He bought my brother an M1 Carbine and me a Winchester 94 .30-30. (If I remember correctly, he spent $75 for each of them). I shot a deer with my Winchester that year, and a couple more in the next few years. I got out of hunting for about 30 years and then went again 3 years ago and shot a 7 point buck at my boss's ranch with the same gun. I have several more guns now but the Winchester is still my favorite.
When I was a kid, my dad's deer rifle was a German 8mm Mauser he brought back from Germany after WWII. It was sporterized and the most accurate gun I knew of at that time. After Dad died, my older sister inherited the gun and it's still in the family, and 4 generations have put food on the table with it. I bought one almost exactly like it at a gun show a couple of years ago, hoping it would generate some of the same sorts of memories. I took it hunting a couple of times, but never saw any deer. Then I took my son out for his first deer hunt, and he shot a big fat doe with it. So maybe he'll be adding to this thread one of these days with stories of his "first gun".
