I'll say .243. I've shot a rabbit and a 200+ lb hog with mine.

If your including exotics then you need 2 calibers a 270 or 30 cal, and a 375. Since you can hunt cape buffalo at the 777 ranch.

I'm not talking about birds If you want to include them then the 12ga will take all of em on. And btw you can take a cape buffalo with a 22cal center fire.

22 hornet WILL take em all on. And 250 Savage might be another option if they still make it

True but instinct and muscle memory would kill you. Good luck with that.

The fact that you can kill something with a particular caliber doesn't make it a good choice. There is nothing like a Cape Buffalo stomping you into a greasy spot that makes the point better. Alaskan Brown Bears have been killed with 22 rimfire rifles, but if you run into one a 10 yds. in the alders, you just might want something in the .338 class or bigger.
for every stereotype there's a prototype don't be the prototype

I can kill any and everything in Texas with my pocket knife - assuming I'm ballsy and lucky enough.
But to seriously answer what I think you're asking, I'd go with a 243 as the bare minimum, and bump it to a 25-06 or larger as the preference. My personal favorite is the 7 Rem Mag. Probably because it's the best shooter (barring my Swift which isn't suitable for big critters) that I own.
Silver spurs and gold tequila keep me hanging on. Pretty girls and old cantinas give me shelter from the storm.

270 or 25-06 should handle most if not anything in the state.
