Look here.
http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/

If you can't find it there, go to WalMart sporting goods counter or Academy and get the guide book (free).

I believe as long as the firearm is legal to own it can be used. No rimfire for deer, no suppressors for game animals, no lasers.

if you are hunting hogs you can use a 30 rd mag but on deer and such you are restricted to 5 and i dont think barrel limit matters as long as its a centerfire cartridge and you can legaly own that SBR and have all of the documentation to prove it but check it out dont take my word for it lol

It seems like more people should read the hand book under means and methods before giving out false information up

Quote:
Magazine Capacity (number of shells/cartridges allowed): There are no restrictions on the number of shells or cartridges a legal firearm may hold when hunting game animals or game birds (except migratory game birds, see Legal Shotgun).

Yep you can have a 100rd drum in TX. But if you hunt deer with a tactical rifle expect to take flack from the hunting community.

I shot a doe this past season with my LR 308. All my mags are 20 rounders' I was planning on blasting a group of hogs, that's why I had my AR instead of a bolt rifle. She dropped in her tracks by the way.

Like he said, "DON'T TAKE HIS WORD FOR IT!!!!". Cuz he's wrong. Deer, pigs, yotes, coons, whatever, there's no mag capacity limits.

And suppressors are already legal not just for game animals, until sept 1.

I don't know any AR that takes clips. They are MAGAZINES!! Clips feed the magazine, and magazine feeds the rifle.
Just wow for everything else.

Kids and their Tacticool Rifles. Have no clue about anything pertaining to them, just know they aren't cool without one.

Clips do not feed the magazine, they go in the magazine. Speed loaders for charging magazines are called chargers. Just as removable magazines are incorrectly called clips, chargers are often called stripper clips. Though use of the word has become accepted it is not a clip nor is it used for loading a clip. For a rifle to be loaded with a true clip, the clip goes inside the magazine of the rifle. An example of a clip loaded rifle would be the Garand.

Striper clips do not go in the magazine. They charge or feed the magazine. The most common rifle that comes to mind that the "clip" goes in the magazine is the Garand. But almost all other rifles that take a "magazine" to fire, do not have a "clip" in the magazine. There are exceptions on a few rifles, but most shooters who use the term "clip", are referring to a "magazine". It's a peev of mine. Like I stated in a previous topic, I deduct a few IQ points for using it wrong.

The only Shell capacity regulations in Texas for hunting are for Migratory game birds which is a Federal restriction across all states.

I've heard this before from a hunter much older than myself. He was surprised when I (later) pointed the error out to him after a look through the guide book. Was the 5 round limit an actual regulation at some point in TPWD history?
