WHy would that not be ok?

Isn't it funny how day by day nothing changes but when you look back everything is different.

Nowadays people know the price of everything and the value of nothing.

I took it to two different offroad shops and they both told me it's unsafe

It's "unsafe" because blocks can crack/break. It is a cheaper solution as opposed to a "real" lift using bigger springs/longer shocks. That being said, plenty of people run them with no issues.

Yes. If you are doing any sort of rock crawling, that is where you will more than likely crack/break a lift block. The force of dropping off of a rock is where the block will take the most punishment. If you are just talking about driving around the hunting lease with occasional encounters with smaller rocks, it shouldnt be an issue. If you are going to be doing more serious offroading, I would definitely look into removing the blocks and installing a proper lift system.

Mudding should be fine. Like anything, there is always a risk, but like I said, tons of people run lift blocks. For the cost, they are hard to beat.

Doing a lift yourself saves tons of money. If you are paying someone to install the lift then yes, you will pay a lot more. But if you can do it yourself then you cut it in half basically. I am about to put a 4" lift on my Land Cruiser, and I have about $1000 in just parts (including springs, shocks, brake lines, bumpstops, drop brackets, steering stabilizer, etc.). I will be doing it myself.

Front lift blocks are highly advised against using because of the added leverage and force from the steering of the truck. The rear has no side to side force which is why they are a common and cheaper way to lift a truck. Downside is axle wrap, using replacement springs with proper lift helps cut down on wrap and improve ride quality.
I have built 3 chevy trucks with a solid axle swap and always used springs with proper lift I wanted. Too much of a risk any other way. By the way, new springs do NOT cost $2000.00.

Are lift blocks different than levelling kits?

Thanks - Mickey

yes, leveling kits go on top of springs, farthest from the actual pivot/leverage point. Blocks go under them, right at point under the most stress.

I would NEVER run blocks on the front for any reason. NEVER! Too many potential problems. But then again, I wouldn't run blocks on the rear either. For a reasonable 4" or so lift, shackle flip kit on the rear, and lift springs on the front. And you'll get out for a good bit less than $2k if you shop around.

DO NOT use blocks on the front axle. Along with what others have said, the constant side pressure of turning, especially while under load, will weaken and eventually cause the u-bolts to fail.

Specialized blocks for the rear are safe and are commonly used as OEM on trucks these days.

OEM blocks on rear are find, aftermarket blocks on front or rear are scary. I have seen them twist, break, crush and all end up very badly. I would think my safety or the safety of people around me when I am on the road would be enough to make me spend the extra money to do it right.

As others have said, front lift blocks are a real bad idea. The combined down-and-out forces during a turn can actually cause the blocks to shear out or fail. Definitely aint worth the risk.
