Easy like jherderson said. Just be sure that is all that is wrong before you buy it. Could be other problems in the rear end such as ring gear and pinion. If you can't drive it before buying it you have no idea about anything else that may be a problem. Good luck

What would be the worst case scenario? Cost to replace all rear end?

If you can't drive it how do you know about transmission, transfer case, steering, engine under a load etc.

A CJ6 is a pretty rare jeep, mind if I ask here you saw it or how much?

A CJ5 or CJ7 would be much more common.

All I know is if you have the chance to buy it get it.. I have owned 3 older jeeps and currently have a newer one "86" like Seth04 said rare find. you could probably find a complete rear end on craigslist for very little money, don't let anyone scare you away from buying it.... Jeep parts are cheap..

I am not trying to talk anybody out of anything. I am just trying to help. Sure if you know where parts are easy to get they are not that expensive used. But you need to know what to look for. It does not sound like he has a lot of mechanical experience if asking about changing a rear axle. If you start getting a garage to do all the work the labor will become more than the parts cost. Then you would have been better off buying a jeep that is already in good shape.
