HUNTIN WITH DAD



I WOULD GO HUNTING WITH MY DAD BACK WHEN I WAS A KID
SIT BESIDE HIM AND POINT OUT THE DEER IS WHAT I DID
WHEN SOMETHING WOULD COME OUT I TAPPED HIM TO LET HIM KNOW
HE WOULD LOOK AT ME AND WINK AND A SMILE HE WOULD SHOW
WHEN I GREW A BIT, HE BOUGHT ME A GUN
HE GAVE IT TO ME WITH A SMILE BUT SAID BE CAREFUL SON
WE HUNTED TOGETHER FOR SQUIRRELS AND DEER
FOR BY MY HEROS SIDE IS WHERE I LIKED TO BE NEAR
I WAS BY HIS SIDE WHEN HE SHOT A BIG BUCK
TO BE WITH HIM AND HELP WAS THE BEST OF LUCK
WE WOULD CAMP TOGETHER AND HUNT AT FIRST LIGHT
I WOULD TRY TO OUT HUNT HIM WITH ALL MY MIGHT
HE WOULD LAUGH WHEN I MISSED AND TELL ME WHAT I DID WRONG
TAKE A DEEP BREATH, LET HALF OF IT OUT AND HOLD BUT NOT TOO LONG
SQUEEZE THE TRIGGER LET THE GUN GOING OFF BE A SURPRISE
KEEP YOUR SITES LINED UP AND DON’T CLOSE YOUR EYES
NOW IVE GROWN OLDER WITH CHILDREN OF MY OWN
THESE LESSONS I WAS TAUGHT I HAVE NOW PASSED ON
WHILE HUNTING WITH DAD HE TAUGHT ME THE BEST LESSON IN LIFE
THAT’S TO ALWAYS SPEND TIME WITH YOUR CHILDREN AND WIFE
I SURE MISS THE DAYS WHEN I WAS A LITTLE LAD
BUT MY BEST MEMORIES IN LIFE ARE THE DAYS “HUNTIN WITH DAD”

That is absolutely awesome.

Awesome Gordon. I have a daughter of my own now and am extremely grateful that still hunt with my dad.

gordon that was awesome,brought back old memories and tugged at the old heart strings.

This will be my first year to go hunting without my father. This is a real tear jerker for sure..

I remember my Dad going duck hunting with me one time and him riding down to a deer lease I was on, one time.

We did spend many an hour fishing together as I grew up.

My Dad was born in Tennessee in 1897.

He lived and grew up during a time when normal folks did not hunt for fun.

He came to Texas with his family in 1907.

My Mother was born in Weatherford Texas in 1917.

When I was born, my Dad was 53 years old and Mom was 33.

I grew up as an only child, so I don't have memories of things like spending time with Dad around a campfire.

Yes, we fished a lot and I still love to fish, but to me there is just something more magical about a hunting camp campfire than any other.

I was kept out of the gene pool for a reason, sometimes I am glad of it, sometimes it does bother me.

It bothers me a lot when I see kids being used as pawns by their divorced parents, or being pushed too hard to succeed/win at all costs, to make up for the parents lack of abilities.

I think parents that hunt and fish should make every effort to get those kids, Boys and Girls, out into the woods and let them experience nature, but for Gods sake, don't force or push them, let them learn at their own speed.

Sometimes I feel that parents bring kids into this world and stop looking on them as a wonderful gift that will grow to be a wonderful friend or companion, and instead look up on them as a way to make up for the believed mistakes and missed chances that they made growing up.

Enough of my rant.

Go to any little league football field in the Fall and you'll see an example of this every time!

Crazyhorse I certainly understand what you are talking about. Thats one thing me and my Wife do is to not force our kids into sports or anthing. My oldest Daughter loves beauty pageants and has won a lot (ok im bragging lol) my youngest Daughter is on and off on them. Sometimes she wants to and sometimes she doesnt. She has also won a few. If they dont want to its fine with us. All of my kids love to play sports and they all love to fish and my boys love to hunt. I try to teach my Children good sportsmanship but when you go to a ball game, half of the parents are the WORST sports you have ever seen. The memories I have with my Dad can never be replaced. My Dad is a miracle walking is how I see it. In 3 years time he came down with IPF (ideopathic pulminary fibrosis), then Diabetes, then Osteoperosis, then Prostate Cancer. He survived all. He was put on an experimental drug out of Houston and the progression stopped on the IPF. Prior to that he lost 1/2 of one lung and 1/3 of the other. I Cherrish every minute we get to spend together. Oh my Mom is one heck of a Woman too. She put up with my Dad for 39 years hehe. Of course they say the same about my Wife for putting up with me for 16 years lol.
