I've always been a die-hard Leupold fan, but I also never handled a Trijicon AccuPoint until recently. I was at a gun show and looked through a couple AccuPoints....I was amazed at the brightness and clarity of the glass.
Which scope would you choose for an "all-around" rifle that will be used in low-light situations from time to time?....and why?
An illuminated reticle is not a necessity....but is obviously part of the package with the Trijicon. I'm mostly concerned with durability and light-gathering capability of the glass.
Leupold VX-3 3.5-10x50mm
....or....
Trijicon AccuPoint 2.5-10x56mm

I've owned a leupold mark ar and 2 accupoints (3-9 & 5-20) I would def choose the accupoints easily over a leupold in my opinion. Only down side I found with the accupoint is the mildots are too large when holding over and engaging small targets at long ranges.

Both are great scopes but the Trijicon's brightness can be seen in the store when u look through it IMO
I'd go with the Trijicon...........

A better comparison would be the VX-R vs an Accupoint.
(Between a VX-3 and Accupoint the Accupoint wins)
I would rate them equal in terms of glass quality and a well executed lit reticle. I have both as well as the VX-6. I would put the glass in the VX-6 a tiny step about ove the Accupoint.
That is saying a lot as I have been saying for years the Accupoints are the best deal in a good hunting scope.
Leupold has stepped up their game considerably with the VX-R and VX-6

The new vx-3 glass and coatings are great. Too many folks judge a scope by the brightness in a store.
I think the Leopold will shine in low light and flare reduction.

This without a doubt. My 3x9 accupoint is without a doubt my best all around scope. Has mil dots for longer range and the illuminated reticle without batteries is tough to beat.

Any serious hunting scope must be illuminated in my opinion. Worth their weight in gold in low light and night situations.

used trijicon acogs in iraq. worked in all conditions. no complaints on either of your choices though. looks like a win win situation.

Never have looked through a triji, but like the IR Leupys....you need the IR then you dang sure don't need the CDS on them though.

Can't you turn the fiber dial all the way down to where it's not illuminated?

The illuminated is extra nice but not a must.
What would make leuopold the winner for me is the choice of fine reticles and if I remember correct the weight
