Just went and picked a little from the garden. Only 4 tomato, 3 pepper, and 1 squash plant.

How long do tomatoes produce? Mine hit their peak about a month ago. They have slowed down quite a bit. Is there anything i can do to keep them producing longer?

Well, we've been eating the jalapeńo and banana peppers as fast as they've come off. The yellow tomatoes only make it a few days. Since we have about a million cherry tomatoes we'll prolly be making salsa real soon. When E is here, he pretty much keeps them wiped out. grin

Tomatoes will keep producing but not as much as the initial rate. Many times I have had tomatoes ontil early November. The later ones will not be as large but they are still good

Yeah. We have them up till November but the hotter it gets, the tougher their skin is. Ours are shaded from the late afternoon sun and that helps. Keeping a fairly constant amount of water in the soil is a big thing. You don't have to water them real often; you just need to water them deep so that roots will chase the moisture. If you don't, they won't develop a solid root structure and a hot spell will stop them from blooming or kill them. And if you let the ground get too dry and then have a rain, they'll sometimes grow so fast that they split open. At least at my house, so far this year the temps and rain have been just about perfect. We've only watered the garden twice since we put it in.

It's almost a sin to put salt on the yellow tomatoes. They are so low in acidity that they're a little sweet. If they'll stop getting ripe for a while, it'll be fried green tomato time. banana
