This feeder was set up mainly for Mule Deer. Never thought the Elk would find it and I finally got around to pulling the SD card from it a couple days ago after the batteries were long dead in the cam. Most of the pictures are from January. Had over 2000 pictures of Elk and Javelina!
Nothing big Antler wise but still nice to look at wink

So, how many elk are actually in Texas now? I keep hearing that the numbers have increased after Texas gave up on them as a game animal.

Really cool. I've got to do one of your free range Elk hunts some day.

I hunt off of 67 in between IH-10 and Alpine and we had about 4 hd of elk 6 yrs ago and had about 15-18 last year. They tear up fences and water troughs. We do not have any feeders but the neighbors put some up for about 3 months and the elk destroyed them. I do not care for them at all. They are tough on the habitat and eat a browse line to high for Mule Deer to reach. A buddy told me about a survey flown on a ranch next to the Longfellow on the east side and they saw about 60 hd in Jan-Feb this year on 30,000 acres. He talked to the Longfellow and they said they counted 800+ hd from the air on their counts. I have heard they are now north of IH-10 in Pecos County this summer.
