It's a little more than a 30-06 or 308, but not too much. My wife shoots a lot so it's no biggie for her, but some don't. Might check out the reduced recoil rounds for starters or for the wife. I'd get a good recoil pad unless you got the brand new Savage's that just started coming with soft pads...they help.
With anyone, but especially new shooters (kids, females, etc (no offense))...make sure you brace well, use eye and ear protection, and if possible, use a vice as much as possible, or a lead sled.

It all depends on whether you and her go out and are afraid of the gun from the word go, or try shooting it without worrying about the recoil.
It will recoil a good bit.
I would start out by buying the lowest grain weight bullet factory loads and trying it, before letting the wife try it.
If the recoil is too much for you, do not let her try it.
How much experience have you had shooting rifles of that size.
I am not meaning to be so critical, but the &mm Rem Mag is a great caliber, but it may be too much for your wife, and possibly even yourself.
Felt recoil off of a bench, unless you have a lead sled or one of the other commercial gun rests that is designed to dampen recoil, is more noticeable when shooting at paper than when shooting at hair.
I would also look into obtaining one of the strap on recoil pads, such as the PAST, or one of the other brands that are available.
Don't make the mistake of s caring your wife before she pulls the trigger the first time, many women shoot the &mm Rem Mag and even the larger magnums all the time, it just takes some getting used to. JMO.

I shoot a browning a bolt with a composite stock and 175 grain ammo. I dont think it has much recoil at all. If you have a wood stock should be even less.
In my opinion if someone is worried about recoil before they ever squeeze the trigger they are going to flinch and feel more recoil.

Different manufacturers' rifles produce different felt recoil just as different people perceive recoil differently. In my case, I have a hunting buddy that has a Ruger 7mm mag. To me, it felt like it was going to knock the fillings out of my teeth the very few times I shot it. He's been dinged between the eyes by the scope several times.
Having said that, I am a self-professed recoil sissy. I don't like it. I shoot a Win Mod 70 270 Carbine that had a pretty good slap to it with Federal Premium 150gr ammo. I put a Knoxx CompStock on it to reduce the recoil. In the field I didn't notice the recoil but at the range, it was obvious. I justified the recoil-reducing stock (to myself) by figuring it would keep me from developing the dreaded "flinch".
Practice doesn’t make perfect. Practice makes permanent.

i owned one for years - thumps pretty good. i let my bros-n-law use it one time and he came back to camp w/ a cut over his eye (scope hit him from the recoil). he did take his biggest buck to date w/ that shot.

It shouldnt be too bad, just keep the stock tight to the shoulder. When I bought my 300 weatherby it terified me to shoot it, the biggest gun I had shot before that was a 270. When I shot you could tell I was scared, but after the first one I knew what I had coming and now I think she purs like a kitten. Just take time at the range and it will be fine.

I have shot all those guns you mentioned and more, but none of them kick nearly as much as the 7mag. The 203 has a real soft recoil, and so does the .308, and m-16. The only gun in the military that is going to kick more than the 7 mag is the .50 cal sniper rifle. The m-2 .50 doesn't kick much, because it is on a tripod, and doesn't sit against your shoulder. I don't think she will like the recoil of the 7 mag.

Once, I took my 7mm to the range in a t-shirt...ONCE. Now, I practice like I hunt. I wear my heavier jacket like I do in the stand. Funny, though, I could be shirtless shooting at a deer and not feel anything. What was my point? Oh yeah, just have a little extra padding when sighting in.

let her shoot it before you buy all kinds of stuff just to reduce recoil. not to sound like a hard [censored] but i think recoil is way over-rated. i got a few large cal. rifles, and i kinda like the kick from a 300 or 06.
maybe im diffrent than other folks but i dont even notice recoil when im shooting at an animal, but if i am shooting at a target i do kinda. weird.

I modified an old dove vest for the shooting range. I bought a 1/8" thick x 12" square of sorbothane (sp) off eBay. It's the stuff that Kick Eez recoil pads are made of. I cut the liner on the dove vest and inserted 3 layers of the material inside on the right shoulder and sewed it back up. It's a little too heavy to wear dove hunting but it's a blessing at the range.

I have never noticed mine when hunting. At the range it can be felt after a bunch of rounds, but I've never worried about it.

I am shooting a Sako 7mag with a muzzle break and it is not bad at all. It is about the same as a 270.
