.300 BLK.... i've had all 3
what are you doing with it?
punching paper/longrange stuff - 6.5
hunting - .300 BLK or 6.8
shooting suppressed - Deff. .300BLK
IMO .300BLK is the way to go solely because of compatability, uses 5.56 mags, bolt, ect.

sorry I forgot to list the purpose
mostly a hog gun inside 150 yds
I have a varmint 24" in 5.56 for small stuff out to long range
so a new build will be strictly a hog gun
just looking at variants of the ar

For hunting and punching paper I like the 6.5 Grendel.

just looking at variants of the ar build you a .300BLK upper, ammo is the same if not less than 6.8 and you don't have to buy goofy mags and BCG. I've killed a ton of pigs in that range w/ Chad's custom loads

I have both 300 and 6.8. I like my 6.8 better so far but I still don't have a stock on the 300 and it's 8.5 in barrel. I've had the 6.8 a lot longer too. I'm sure once my can comes I'll like the 300blk better . I use 110 grain v max in both right now
If your around dfw ur welcome to try mine out

Another reason I like 6.5 grendel is that it approximates the other loads I use:
123gr AMAX has very similar ballistics to:
.223 69gr and 77gr otm .308 168gr and 175gr otm (or AMAX)
AND
they all can use H4895 and Varget
PLUS
I can branch my reloading out to 260 or 6.5 creedmoor in a bolt gun later. Where as I have no interest in a .270, I do want to get my feet wet in 6.5 .
TRUE
That a 300BLK crossloads well with my .308; but it's second on my list compared to the 6.5 path.
Upon us all, upon us all, a little rain must fall

6.8 or 300 if going SBR, thats what they were designed for, any longer barrel is nearly pointless.
6.5 will do what your asking and will go long range if you decided too.
Having said that, I love my 12 inch 6.8, pushing a 95 grain TSX 2500ish FPS.

My next build is going to be a 6.5 Grendel. Similar energy to a 6.8 at shorter ranges but much better ballistic coefficient. I want to do some long range plinking.

just looking at variants of the ar A lightweight 16" or 14.5" barrel in 5.56. Make sure and get a 1/7 or 1/8 twist to use longer bullets. You'll kill deer/pigs within a 150 yards and have a handy rifle. But I think everyone should get this kind of build on their first AR. PS: Very nice 6.8 spc build!
