To those that have answered my hunt lease questions before thanks. My father didn't end up leasing a place this year, as he is having his hips replaced this year. His first one starts on Monday.

My questions would concern me.

I am trying to figure out how best to approach this idea I have.

I am about to retire from the military and start teaching school in Wyoming, Montana or Alaska. If we end up in the first 2, I was thinking about trying to find a season lease in Texas for the 2 weeks we are off for Christmas.

I don't really care about whitetail bucks, but would like to shoot some exotics, I haven't ever seen a javelina but I think those are neat, would like to shoot predators and hogs.

Or mule deer and aoudad would be good too, or maybe a nilgai and hog lease in South Texas.

Any ideas you have would be good. Projecting like 25-35 months out depending on how long it takes me to get my credential and a job.

Could this be done for $3000-5000 including 3 to 5 trophy exotics, some does, hogs, javelina and predators?

That price range will be tight.

Depending on the exotics you want you'd be better off getting a Hill Country or western Hill Country lease for Axis, Blackbuck, Fallow, etc.

Nilgai are most prominent in far South Texas, so might have to pursue them separately. Javelina and hogs are also very numerous in S. TX, as are predators. You might do better to contract with an outfitter who can book hunts for all the various game that you want. Or spread it out over a couple of years.

At that price, you'd be lucky to go home with one exotic. Most all exotic hunts arent a leasing type of hunt. Its more like a guided system, where you go out, shoot what you want, then go home...

I agree with the above to a degree. The states you mention have very good hunting for residents and for Alaska you're in heaven. Why pay a cent for Texas hunting leases when you can actually hunt. Save your money.

You are prob $25,000 shy of getting trophy animals you listed, they dont come cheap in texas or anywhere even in the small petting zoos fenced in high fence operations where they buy the goats and sheep, elk, breeder bucks, from a exotic auction in Harper texas and sell them on the next day before they ever find a feeder or get over being hauled in and out.

Why don't you tell us how you really feel? Going to take a stab at guessing you have ill feelings towards HF ranches?

To answer the question. I don't think you will be able to get into some trophy class animals in that price range but you may be able to take some management clas animals

Just from your website, $2500 each for trophy exotics, so he wants 5 of those, a hog lease and a nelgai trophy hunt as well, thats right at $20,000or more just for what he listed, unreasonable for what the going rate is for trophy exotics, just saying, nelgais are higher than exotics as well, do the math, what is the going rate for a trophy mule deer?? See what i mean, shallow pockets aint going to get his list is all i meant.

I am not from Texas, and our Wyoming, Montana and Alaska hunting seasons are much earlier than yours. I'll have been done hunting for a month or two before you guys even get going.

For the most part I can't even hunt anything other than varmints during my 2 weeks of Christmas Vacation.

I just want to spend a week or two out of the snow. I guess that's not a commonly understood concept in most of Texas.

I guess it is a case of pick one eh?

Aoudad and Mule deer/javelina in West Texas

Or Whitetail and hogs in the Hill Country and maybe an axis?

Come to the hill country. Looks like it is gonna be a good year. Coons Canyon Ranch in Rocksprings seems to be a great place for Whitetail and Axis.

For what you're after, sounds like you'd be best trying to find a lease in the Junction/Comfort/Mountain Home area. In addition to Whitetail and pigs, there are good numbers of free-range exotics including Axis, Sika, Auodad, and the occasional Blackbuck.

Tough part will be finding the right lease to where you won't have to put a bunch of work in other than your two weeks off. Leases take maintenance.

If you want to take a few exotics and javelins and predator I'm sure I can put something together to keep you busy for a week or so just like an an exotic buck, a mouflon and 4 days of javelina and predators for around $4500 total of 8 days of hunting on 2 different huge ranches in south Texas and big bend

The post above by aoudadhunter sounds like one of the only reasonable priced hunts I have seen on this thread
