On my way back home from my Houston hog hunt last week (very good hunt)I stopped in Comanche County and was told there were lots of hogs around there. Any one have any information to add to this? I was told there were herds of them near Guthrie TX also. May have to plan a trip out there to see about hunting opportunities. Anyone know anything to add to my search? As it's half the travel time from my house in AZ, I may be able to do it more often if I can find a place to hunt.

Comanche County sits on top of Hamilton County ,in the same ecological zone, so they should be similar. There's have been a lot of threads lately on Hamilton County.
for every stereotype there's a prototype don't be the prototype

I lived in comanche county for a long time. Yes there's lots of hogs there. The problem is the folks there are klanest if you was'nt born around there and no all there kin folks its hard to get the ok to hunt. Find someone thats bought land there thats not from there and you've got a chance. good luck

stxcowboy Thanks for the insight to the politics in Comanche Co I was talking to a county cop and he indicated that it might not be too hard to find a place. I wonder if an ad in the local paper or feed store board might be worthwhile?

I don't hunt down there, but have talked to a few guys that hunt there and they say Comanche Cty is swamped with pigs. They take advantage of all the old, and active, peanut farms.

Hogs probably like peanuts don't they? I'm working on finding a way to hunt there just because it's so much closer than Houston to my home.

We own land in Erath County and used to eat at several places in Deleon. Had relatives around that area. Most of those eating places had a bulletin board and numerous times there were ads re hog hunts.

I have some hunting contacts in Comanche County. I made friends with some local younger guys around my age (mid 20's) and I have been fortunate enough to get to see all kinds of stuff all over the county.
There are A LOT of local hog-doggers. They obtain permission directly from landowners and often times lease hunters are forgotten about. Im not saying anyone is at fault here, that's just how it is. It happens everywhere. Game camera pictures have been posted here of hog-doggers from Comanche county that were captured from a hunting lease member.
The peanuts are not the big deal for hogs anymore in Comanche County since the peanuts have been all but gone for several years. The big deal here is farming crops for the local dairys. Local farmers quit planting sorghum due to the hogs. Most everyone is farming corn now instead. I was in the sorghum fields during havest aka chopping season. We lined up around the field waiting on the hogs to make a run for the brush. It was a BLAST but those days are over since the pigs won't stay in corn fields in the heat of the day.
SO....There are hogs. The locals will do things their way in order to protect their land from hogs. It's just business to them. Their land puts food on the table, in some cases literally, and most of us here are recreationalist.
Hamilton county has been mentioned above. Hamilton is not nearly as industry driven compared to the dairy industry in Comanche. Local and landowner hunting pressure is most of the time much less or non-existant.

WOW SO much useful information Thanks All If any of you ever want any good info on reasonably priced hunts in Africa I can lead you to the right people. I'm not a broker and I have no financial interest in any outfit but I've done it enough to know how to do it at a reasonable cost. As I say on the African forum- IF YOU GO ONCE-YOU WILL GO AGAIN-DEAL WITH IT!
