Do yall think its to hot to shoot hogs this time of year? How long do you think you got till the meat gets bad.

Definitely not too hot to shoot them. It would be best to load them up and clean them as soon as you shoot them, preferably in an area out of the heat and away from the flies like a garage. Don't plan on shooting any in the evenings and skinning them the next morning and you will be alright.

I don't exactly know how long but when it's hot I have big coolers, ice, everything ready to go, as soon as its down I go to work and will have it on ice in twenty minutes and have never had a problem. I wouldn't think over 90 degrees you would have more than an hour before the fat starts to turn.

Get them hanging, cleaned out, and hosed down good. It will be harder on you! I cleaned three small hogs that were in a trap one hot afternoon. Bout done me in but the pork was fine!

It's never too hot or too cold to shoot hogs! It may get to hot for comfort but if you do dress, clean and ice down quickly, the meat should be fine.
As the temperature goes up and the rain slows down, they will be heading for stock tanks and water troughs for water and to cool down.

I agree clean them quickly. My son shot a 60lb pig Saturday nite. I gutted, skinned cut legs and head off and put in ice chest with water. I have found that letting the meat sit in 32 degree water for 24-36 hours helps pull the blood out and makes the meat tender and have Hardly no gamey taste.

What he said, only I let mine sit a little longer normally around 72 hours...costs a little more in ice but bleeds out much better....

Cool thanks for the opinions. I wanted to go get one but didn't know if the hog would spoil. I'll have to work fast.

Save yourself some time and only take the hams and backstraps. You can just pull the hide back enough to do this without gutting. Just sever the the hind legs at the knees and you're done.

If you want the whole thing get it gutted fast then it will last a bit longer than with them inside. When you go to clean them wash them of with dishwashing soap before you start cutting meat out and it will keep alot of rank flavor out of the meat
