The new fn made ones are pretty good guns X2 I like the FN versions very much. The ones I have shot left me with the impression these are the Best Winchester 70s I have shot except some pre 64s that had been customized.

Lol, ya the trigger is probably the best factory trigger available. Goldstien has a new 270 featherweight in 270 and it's a shooter

Just measured her LOP & it's only 10" so it looks like she'll continue to shoot the AR until she gets bigger! I'd still appreciate any input on this weapon. Thanks.

I have an old beretta shot gun that I've had since I was a kid... If fit me well back then... Still fits me today with a thick recoil pad... Can hardly tell it was cut down

Fit and finish is much better on the FN South Carolina made Winchesters than those that were made in the last 20 years or more of production at Winchesters Conn plant IMO. FN production of the Model 70 started in 2008.

This probably doesn't help much, but I owned a M70 Featherweight in 30.06 years ago. I love the rifle, but I did notice a little more recoil than other 30.06 rifles I had shot. They also have pencil barrels, so if you take it to the range you'll notice your barrel heats up very quickly. You just have to take frequent breaks to let it cool down or your groups will really spread out. They are very nice rifles and easy to carry around because of their light weight.

My father has one in .243 winchester. I don't know the year, but at least a decade old. A very beautiful gun. Pretty light. My father's is dressed with a an old 4x refield. Its my idea of an idea hunting rifle. The one firearm my father owns that I REALLY want. I haven't shot it a ton, but its is a beautiful rifle. .243 is a great caliber for this rifle IMO. If I ever get this rifle, I'll dress it with a nice 1-4 power scope. It weighs just under 6 lbs 12 oz and has a 22" barrel according to: I wonder who it would handle with an 18" barrel. http://www.winchesterguns.com/products/catalog/detail.asp?mid=535109 There are guns that are lighter and shorter.

I've just shot the older FWs, don't know squat about the compacts. Old ones shot great, but barrels heated up in a hurry.

A 20" barrel on the compact is going to be very LOUD for her. Just get a regular Featherweight, find a well used stock to cut down for her & save the nice new one .
I have an SC built 7-08 & it is a fine shooter, same as every other SC FN built Featherweight I've seen.

Here's an FN version, though I have a FW Compact Classic from New Haven in 7-08 that is a beauty and shoots very well. If the FN versions are 'better', I would be beyond impressed!
