Im wondering if anyone has a good website or an article that they read, or even their own experiences they can share about training a bloodhound for tracking.
My little girl did great last night, but flipped out when she ran up on the hog (which was still alive).

Train a bloodhound? Is that even possible? Mine has to be the stubbornest SOB alive. Oh, he is smart, but he just decides not to listen to anything I have to say. Mine instinctivly tracks. He hasn't been out in the field, but when we go for walks we end up at someones doorstep after they have walked their dog. He would probably learn to track just fine if there were treats at the end of the track. I would work on that. Just don't let them off of a leash. Once mine gets going it takes a miricle to stop him. He got out of the yard last week and after a lap around the neighborhood I had to just get in the truck and start driving. Thankfully he is a gorgeous dog and people stoped down the road to try and block traffic. I eventually got ahead of him (he was locked in on a rabbit), threw it in park and was able to surprise and tackle him. He is my second and my last bloodhound. Our first got loose and his nose took him right out in the street and he was hit. My wife loved how well he got along with our daughter that she made me shell out big bucks for another one. She now accepts that they have their place, and our house isn't it. They are the most loving animals in the world, but if they don't want to do what you want them to do it will never happen. Anybody want a bloodhound??

Mine seems to have a good temperment, her stubbornness is pretty tame. Im assuming males are more stubborn than the females?
On that note, lots of treats when she tracks, lots praises when she does what shes told. She is now coming when called and not leaving the yard too often, still hates cats and chases them like her life depends on it.

If your bloodhound doesn't leave the yard when she has the chance then you have got it so easy. Lots of treats and praise should do the trick. I would think that males are more stubborn just becasue their males. Mine will sit and lay down after about 5 requests. But if he gets out then he just wants to run. We have a big yard, but he loves to run. When we go to the dog park he will run at a sprint for a full hour. He doesn't hump, or fight. He just runs and runs. He will stop and sniff a butt or two, but doesn't get caught up with crowds of dogs. He just finds a scent and goes. Good luck.
