Dang that thing is huge. I would think long and hard before I climbed into the best duck hunting blind in the world if there was a chance of meeting that thing in there.

It's a diamond back or banded water snake. Why would you think it's a cotton mouth hybrid? That is a big one. Look at my thread in the photo section "greedy little guy" same kind.

AGFC biologist was curious and though it may be a hybrid snake but it was confirmed to be a diamondback water snake...just glad that sucker is dead
It got a .22 to the belly and then boat paddle whacks to the head

what makes you say not possible? Cottonmouths have mated with other species of snakes in captivity and more prevalent in the wild... I'm know snake expert but I know this happens with cottonmouths and copperheads

Well, prolly wouldn't have wanted it dead, but would hate to find it in the dark first morning of early teal season too.

Seems like a quick check for fangs would have given Arkansas P&W a pretty quick idea if it was a banded or hybrid

Banded Water Snake. They do get big eating fish. Also get quite nasty They can get very aggressive and although non-venomous, they carry a lot of bacteria in their mouth. It is armed with nasty rearward slanting teeth that can make for a nasty bite to man and dawgs both. Unless treated quickly, can almost guarantee a painful infection. By the way, they will coil and strike very much like a rattler or cottonmouth on dry land if threatened.
Cappy ... At my side for thirteen years, in my heart forever.

Seems a little "expertise" would have solved your assumption that you found a rare hybrid snake without the help of these state officials. Oh yeah, You are welcome
