Are you in the rougher shinnery country along the drainages towards Jayton? To me it sounds like to many guns on that size acreage unless it is really thick.

I haven't been up there yet. But from the description they gave me it has alot of heavy cover from mesquites to cedars. Deep draws and canyons. And creeks running all thru the place. They set up a couple of feeders and cameras and have got some pictures of some mule deer and some elk. They are thinking the elk came from the high fenced ranch that's next to this ranch when the fires came thru the area. It just sounds to good to be true. And you know what the old saying is. Thanks for any information.

The ranch I hunted was on a county road that ended up going back across a thicker creek on the way to Aspermont. Some of those creeks are mostly salt water unless it rains a lot in some areas. The mesquite flats are great WT country. The canyon areas will have both MD and WT. Water is very critical on those ranches as well as winter wheat. Put both together and really good combo. Lots of hogs also and would not be suprised if you have aoudads also. I am betting it was not to far from where I hunted back in the late 90's. Some really good deer were taken from time to time on the larger ranches in that area. Rut in that area was around the first week of November for us. Little bit to the west on that side of our ranch is was about 10-14 days later.

That area has very nice terrain. Some could be a little difficult to navigate at times but its well worth it. The red dirt sure doesnt cooperate when its soaked so be cautious. Will you be anywhere close to the brazos river? Ive got two spots in fisher county and a couple more to the north east of aspermont. The fires did do ALOT of damage burning through the brush out there.

it sounds like a pretty good place. there is no livestock on the ranch, and they did say that a fire went thru the place last year, but the new growth looks good. im ready to get out there and set up some feeders and cameras and see whats coming. thanks for the info.

we hunted quil out there all growing up and then decided to put feeders up just incase we wanted to deer hunt. wow we were shocked that on several different places with a few mesquites and mostly shinnery that deer would pop up out of no where and im talking some giants! we had over 10 leases around the stonewall co. over the years mainly for quil but like i said after we saw the deer we hunted them too. wish we could find another place out there but our insider to good leases passed away and the dogs started getting older and retired. good luck
