I haven't posted here a ton but I just made the cut for Pro-Staff (which has been a dream of mine) with Grim Reaper broadheads. So, a bit biased, yes, but here's the kicker, I hadn't even shot these for the first time until a couple of years ago. All of my success has been recent and here is the story of why...

I am personally sold-out on using these for any type of four-legged game in bowhunting. I have had 13 kills from Grim Reapers in from my crossbow on Hogs and Deer (in these past two years) and have literally watched all but a couple of the animals I shot run out in front of me and fall over within 10-15 seconds. I shoot the 125 grain in my Crossbow 1 3/4" with the expander cups for a total of 2". I also now own a pack of the 100 grain 2" called the "Whiteail Special".

Now, like most of you, I have shot plenty of other broadheads. I lost two deer before I switched to these two years ago and almost hung up my compound and crossbow as I lost my confidence in recovering what I shot. Indeed, shot placement is everything but we all know anything than happen in bowhunting senarios, and it often does...

Everyone has their opion but I have yet to lose a deer or hog with GR's and this has been the case with even marginal/low-light shots that were questionable... and we have all been there if you have been bowhunting for any length of time.

Whats more is that I have been able to rebuild these heads with the replacement part kits and use them multiple times, just changing out the blades after each kill. That's it. I have destroyed many broadheads and the value of swapping out parts on the ferrule of the Grim Reapers in about two minutes has been a whole like easier on the pocket book them buy new heads.

This is all my humble opinion but for the hunting ranch, guide services, and TV show I work with, we only use what works. We can't afford to do otherwise or put people in front of products that might fail. GR's have never let us down.

I have not used thier Hades Fixed blade heads but I hear they fly as straight as feild tips much like the G5 Monetecs and other heads do. Bill (AKA "Prowler" from our TV show Mac & Prowler-"Coyote Tales" below) swore off ever using mechanical heads until he shot a bobcat and coyote at over 50 yars on two seperate occasions with the mechanical heads I sent him. He is now a believer too. Addionally, this hunting season, I sent some packs of GR's or guided a few friends to use GR's this year. One friend who almost quit bowhunting in his home state of Michigan as he lost multiple deer, finally bagged his first two deer with them and watched both of them drop from his tree stand. He is now sold on bowhunting again and that is what I love to see happen.

I personally love the 2" radius, which is the largest they offer with expander cups installed. With a 3-blade 2" hole, you have the assurance of a good blood trail and fast recovery. As I mentioned, it has been just like the commercials for me personally. I shoot, watch the deer run about 75-100 yards or often much less, and fall over right there in my line of sight! Its like shooting them with a rifle! I cannot believe the performance and personally would not recommend them if they just like any other broadhead out there. They are head and shoulders above the rest of the mechanicals out there though for sure...

Feel free to comment. Just had to post up here about my experiences as I always seek to help other bowhunters keep thier confidence and my confidence is back in the saddle again. For the first time ever, I limited out on 5 whitetails this deer season, all with my bow and Grim Reapers this fall. I never thought that would be possible for me a few years ago. Thanks for listening!

Like anything on the market there are going to be differences of opinion; regardless of whatever it is. I think the most important factor in archery is YOUR confidence level, if you’re confident with a certain product that is all that matters. What I like and use, will not necessary work for every individual.

Goes back to the saying; “Dance with the one that brung you.”

Congrats on becoming a pro-staffer. I've heard nothing but good things about them. I personally use 2 blade rages but like you it's what I have my confidence stacked in right now and have been for the past several years. I can say if i switched it would be to the GR's. Good write up don't forget all us little guys when you make it big! smile

Congrats on making it to a pro staff position. Something I will never accomplish. But I won't use mechanical heads. I, and two others I hunt with, who thought the 2 blade Rage was the sheit have thrown them away and gone exclusively to fixed heads. Yes, confidence is key, but after seeing too many well shot pigs get away with dwindling blood trails, that confidence is gone.

Passthru, I understand. I have not been a fan of 2 blade heads for that reason alone. Everyone seems to love the 2 blade Rage but I lost a hog to one a few years back and have not shot one since. Hitting one with a three blade is harder to recover from were sometime, especially with hogs, a 2 blade can be a recoverable wound if its not right in the vitals.

That being said, have you checked out the GR Hades heads? Most stores don't carry them in retail but they look to be just as strong as Muzzys, etc. out there?

I've used GR for over 2 years now, and haven't lost a critter. I've killed several deer, and a few hogs. I shot a huge boar last Sept. well over 250 pounds I only got about 10 inches of penetration.. He ran over 200 yards but we found him. At first I was irritated on the lack of penetration, but come to find out that boar had over an inch thick shield (quartering away shot). I'm not sure a pass through would've been possible regardless of what broad head used! Now I use slick tricks for hogs and GR for deer due to the cost of replacing GR’s ! Over all very happy..

Congrats on the "promotion" to pro staff!

I switched to grim reapers this past year and couldn't be happier! Pass through on every animal I shot this year (5 total) even though I lowered the poundage on my bow to 60lbs due to my hand injury (used both the 1 3/8" and 1 3/4" heads). The heads fly true and do massive damage. I think my longest track this year was 20yrds, just amazing how fast they actually kill the animal!

No sir I haven't tried them but I have had enough kill shots with my Thunderheads that I shan't stray to mechanical heads again. Just don't see an advantage. They may be great heads, lot's of good feed back here and on the green screen about them but my position is why try to fix what isn't broke? When fixed heads fail me I'm in trouble.

I almost gave up on my bow after losing a deer that was shot with a slick trick that only went about half way in. The guys at allstar archery told me to give these grim reaper hog heads a try. Last year i got the chance to let an arrow fly on another and he only ran about 15 yards after a pass thru shot. Definitely got my confidence back that i could ethically hunt with stick and string.

This is by far my favorite mechanical broadhead and now the only mechanical I will use. Good blood trails and penetration.
