I am 22 and shot my first band when I was 8. A blue wing teal. Shot my second one this past season it was a mallard. I would say I've been seriously hunting since I was about 14. But anyway I've killed 2 in 14 years of hunting.

My girlfriend has been hunting ducks pretty much since she met me 3 years ago and she has killed a banded mourning dove and a blue goose.

Her blue goose.

We've only collected 6 bands since moving to TX in 2004. We had three before that in NV when I got wifey person hooked on dawgs-n-ducks. wink

If I told you how many bands I had collected from 1956 until 1977 when I moved to Hawaii (where there's no waterfowl hunting) you wouldn't believe me. Probably even harder to believe is that I GAVE THEM ALL AWAY to my former duck hunting buddies when I moved. Bands really weren't a big deal back in those days as they have become in the last 20 years or so.

Very impressive rob.

I only have 1 band from a churchill manitoba snowgoose killed in chinal texas in 2002. The sucker was an old bird banded in 1985. I tracked down the bander, and he was working at a museum in new york city.
He exactly remebered that day he banded them birds as part of a high school project. Good times.

I'm pretty sure Rob has that info at the ready to cut and paste when asked. I'm jealous! Zero band on a ton of hunts. I'm thinking I average 1.5 hunts at least per week during the season for like 6 or 7 season in a row and then before that I'd go a handful of times a year. I have not even seen one shot in a group. I've seen a bunch of ducks and geese fall but never one with a band.

There are certain pockets where you are more likely to get bands...I'm clearly not in one of those areas.

Increase your amount of Mallards you harvest and you will increase your bands.

14 Mallards - (12 drakes 2 Hens)
1 Pintail drake
1 Redhead hen
1 widgeon Drake
1 Widgeon Hen
2 wood duck drakes
1 GWT
1 BWT

22 Total, Been chasing these birds for about 27 years now.

J.J.

Now as far as day dreaming...this is what I think about:

20 years and a lot of birds later 1 mallard band.

JJ that looks like a park picture from a pond out side of Chicago we used to watch birds at. It seemed like 1 out of 3 had a neck band at times.

Not really a big time duck hunter, but got lucky once with this double banded drake mallard. $100 reward band.

Picture is from Olathe, Kansas. Friend of mine sent it to me...

They did a neck banding survey to see how many geese leave city limits...Results was, "very" few left city limits.

My girlfriends dad has a ranch in east texas with quite a few resident geese on it. My girlfriend thought I was crazy when I said I saw a bird with a neck collar fly over the house. We set off the goose feeder and she came in on a string with the rest of the birds... This picture was taken in August and we reported the numbers off the collar and she was from Cookeville, Tennessee. She left before resident season opened barf
