Hi all. I'm looking to buy my first gun and I'm down to wanting a reasonably priced 9mm for range time and home defense.

I'm working to keep my out the door costs to under $500 which obviously limits my choices. My brothers already told me they won't go to the range with me if I get a glock so that's out.

I've been looking at the Sig 2022 and the Springfield XD service (or XD(m) compact). What is everyone's thoughts on either?

Thanks in advance.

My vote would be for the sig 2022. You will be slightly limited on holsters compared to the XD, but I like the sigs better myself. Great gun for the money.

My vote is for the Sig as well. Ive been eyeing the 2022 myself and will likely pick one up in the coming months. Seems like you can pick them up for sub $450 with night sights, a great deal in my opinion.

I have the Sig and the XD. Not a fan of the Sig at all. It's a very low end model with a horrible trigger. I've shot it a grand total of twice in the last several years it's so bad. However, I own multiple XD's and carry one everyday. As for Glocks, who cares what your family thinks. If a Glock fits your hand good and you're accurate with it, buy one.

I would get a Glock just out of spite smile

Hard to beat that reliability.

Go handle both and if possible shoot both. Pick the one that feels best and if you get to shoot both which one you shoot best. 2cents

I had a XD40 service and a XD9SC XD you can't really go wrong with. I had a SIG2022 and didn't like it a bit, like devil dog said I shot it a few times and sold it. I would tell your brothers to shut up, get a Glock and out shoot them with it make em squirm.

I also used to be a Glock hater because it was the "IN" thing to get because every movie and song talked about them. Then I actually shot one for myself and never looked back.

I'd wait for Springfield's new xds in. .45.

I love my Glock36... It's a single stack .45.

Seriously.

Have you seen the new S&W shield..for a 9mm...getting great reviews...they sold out at the gun show this weekend.

I had a 2022 for a long time, and liked it alot. Strange that others don't like their triggers, they are known to have better triggers than their metal counterparts.

Take a look at the FNX 9, I just got one and love it. Its light as can be and is the size of a Glock 19. I am a glock guy, but this gun is winning me over the more I shoot it.

I'd look at a used P226 or P229 before I'd buy a 2022...but I'm not a fan of polymer frames.

I've owned several XDs and currently own the SP2022 and my opinion is you can't go wrong with either gun. Like another member said, go look at both of the pistols and see which one feels better in your hands.

I like my SP2022 and can shoot it as accurately as the XDs I've owned. My 2022 curretnly has a weapons light attached and sits in my nightstand in case unwelcome guest stop by in the middle of the night.

Thank you all for your help. Went and Checked each for grip (can't shoot test at Cabellas). Ended up with the 2022. It fits my and my wife's hands well and once I adapted to the sites, I like this gun. Put about 90 rounds without any issues (with the gun, my skill needs work though) smile

Thanks again.
