I picked up a 700 SPS Tactical yesterday and have since been reading about the rifle. I put 20 rounds down range yesterday and so far I love it. This trigger is awesome!

I am going to upgrade the BDL style floor plate and go with a detachable box mag.

My questions are:
How much is the BDL style floor plate worth to someone with a ADL wanting to swap over?
Where can I buy the factory hex key that came with the gun for the trigger adjustment?
The "factory" Hogue stock is touching the barrel when The gun is rested on the bipod, should I remove the stock and sand the barrel channel down some to remove any contact points forward of the receiver?
What is the proper way to get the bolt release button to come back down after placing the bolt back into the receiver?

I found that if I cycle the safety lever a few times the bolt release button will come back out but I didn't know if there was a better way.

Love mine, it's deadly accurate, and shoots good with federal match king 168gr ammo....first thing I did was order a bell and Carlson from stockys stocks and put a jewel in it!

I am new to bolt action rifles but for a stock trigger I liked the feel of this one, no creep and a clean break. I am just going to be using this one for some plinking every now and then and deer / Hog hunting so 3 lbs is about as light as I want to go on the trigger.

This gun actually came with a few boxes of match king.

I like everything about it except that BDL style floor plate. I cant stand top loading.

Is it a long or short action? If long I'd be interested.

The only SPS tacticals I am aware of are for 223 and 308. My vote is short action.

I believe it is a short action, the bolt spacing is 6.5"

Mid way sells new floor paltes for around $90.
I would get rid of the hogue stock and upgrade it. You can try sanding the channel out but the stock is not the best and flexes alot.

I do not think you can sand the Hogue stock due to its design, it is not solid down the barrel channel. I bought a B&C A3 from Redhawk Rifles for around 215-220 plus shipping, they were a little cheaper than stockys, they also sell a Drop Mag conversion as well, if you get both you will speend aroud 450-500. The bottom metal would be worth around $75 I would bet.

I have an ADL and I have thought about upgrading to a BDL style magazine and I think I'd pay around $60 for one.

looks like I am going to have to keep my floor plate TX Outlaw, I was going to buy the Kwik Klip conversion but just found out they don't make them for the short action rifles, and I am not going to spend the $300 +/- for some of the other brands.. Dang... I was about to place the order for one...

I put an HS Precision on mine, love it.

What is it chambered in? As antoher poster said, SPS tacticals only come in short action.

I purchased one in .223 and it's a hell of a shooter. It will shoot dime size groups at 100 yards with the right hand loads, and if I do my part.

Good looking stocks guys, Like I said before I am new to bolt actions and did not realize how many upgrades there are for the 700. Looks like I went with a great rifle for my first high power rifle. I have a AR and a 30-30 but all of my others are 22's, shot guns, and pistols.

For the hex key I would just go to home depot and buy a nice set of husky Allen wrenches, standard size, that way you get one to adjust the trigger and one to remove the bolts on the bottom for swapping stocking and pretty sure Remington made at a 243 drop mag sps you might be able to find.

Use the Allen wrench to remove the barreled action and lube the bolt release slide to help.

YouTube can be a great source of help as well.

HS makes a mag kit to replace hinder floor plate but it's not cheap

I have several sets of Allen wrenches but none of them will fit in the trigger guard. I am going to take one to the bench grinder in a few days and grind the short side down a little so It will fit without having to remove the floor plate.

Careful taking a bench grinder to a rifle, that's rarely a good idea. Once you get those factory screws out, order some replacements from Midway or Brownells and do it right. It's not a special size allen head so not sure what's up with your current screws.

Regarding your bolt release like Furb said, just pull that thing out and hit it with some CLP. It's probably got some oils from the factory gumming it up. It's very common on 700s, and gets worse with age (almost every one that's just had hoppes run through it every year before dear season has the issue). Oil gets down in there and gums up over time.

Lol no bench grinder will get close to my rifle. I'm going to use the grinder to shorten the length on my Allen wrenches so I can adjust the trigger pull weight without having to remove the floor plate... Nothing is wrong with any screws.

I'll break the rifle down and clean everything good in a few days. I'll be spending the weekend inside with the new baby so it will be a good chance to do it..
