My long dryspell ended 04/29 Monday evening...we had been hearing gobblers across neighbors fence sunday afternoon but unable to get em to cross the fence. Monday afternoon hunted alone with one zink avian-x hen placed close to the fence. He started gobbling back at me a long distance away but steadily headed toward me. Seemed to take forever but he showed up at the fence, saw the girl and really put on a strutting show. Then he suddenly started a fast walk down the fence line out of sight. I hit the call really low volume purr and he answered behind me out of sight. He cleared the fence and suddenly he was three feet away to my left headed at the decoy, full strut, white head with an inverted red halo. He was drumming and it was my first time to hear it. It was loud at three feet with me camoed out on the ground. My heart was pounding so fast I thought it might jump out of my chest. Tom finally strutted past me, made about 10 steps more east of me and to the right of my faced away hen. I put the Gobblestopper green dot just below the fan base and bam! He was down and I jumped up to do the turkey dance! When I rolled him over the wad from the Federal Flitecontrol 3" magnum 12 gauge load literally fell out of the point of aim. He was my best yet with a 8.5" beard and 1/2" spurs. He weighed 23 pounds. I was blessed by the hunting gods that hunt making that hunt almost the best one yet. The best one was last spring watching my son take his first turkey... grin

Thanks Aaron and kuddos to Mike, my newest hunting partner for posting the pic for me lol and thanks everyone else, was a hunt I will never forget on a new lease. Also Mike thanks again for the phone call, I hate if for Jack but am stoked that an immediate opening came up for my best friend to get on the lease also. Gonna be a great hunting season and has started off with a 12 ga bang already!
