Of course "I'm a lefty" but this is what I was wondering -

Is it that "big" of a problem with right hand AR's shot from left shoulder. I've got a mini-14 and shoot several semi-auto shot guns & have used an M1A/M14 & it doesn't seem to be an issue with them.......At least most of the brass went wide or over my shoulder!

Although at one time I could shoot from either side, I've gotten older and the eyes aren't what they used to be so I'm sorta confined to left side only. (better left eye)

Of course after reading all these threads on AR's I've got that "hmmmmmmmmm" thing again.! You've heard my mantra "Man can't have too many guns". The bug may go into regression but it doesn't ever go away!

Most of what I've bought I've kept. I was thinking something to mess around with while thinking about resale later in life. I know there are left handed uppers but was trying to maybe make one purchase......

Opinions solicited: And....are you left or right handed?

My son is a left sided shooter and he has no problem shooting my AR and Saiga. I worry about it more than he does. My AR ejects at about 3 to 4 oclock and it doesnt bother him.

Watched a guy at the range yesterday shooting a full auto left handed. I think he got hit in the face with a couple shells, but I'm not for certain.

I'm a lefty and have no problem with my AR. No brass to the face, it usually ejects at about 2-3 o'clock. Maybe some gas to the face but I usually wear eye pro. I work the mag release with my right thumb, slap the bolt release with my left hand, and work the charging handle with my left hand and the safety with my left thumb(doesn't feel that awkward to me) but the do sell ambi safeties and it's also easier to check the chamber being a lefty shooting a standard config AR. If resale is a priority it may be easier to sell a regular right handed upper later on.

I'm a HUGE proponent of LH bolt rifle for LH riflemen. But!

I've got a right handed AR 15 and have no issues what-so-ever. I put an ambi safety on it and all is well. I agree you can see if the bolt is in or out of battery easier than a RH shooter.

I don't know how hard it is to come up with a LH upper. If it's like every other thing there are less options for lefties. I won't mess with it, since a RH AR is just fine.

I wouldn't even know how to use a left handed firearm. Never picked one up, and don't plan to anytime soon. I've gotten so used to using righty guns that a lefty would be a foreign concept to me.

My AR ejects about 2-4 o'clock, so no issues so far. The only guns I've found that I absolutely cannot shoot are bullpup designs. On those, the bolt handles make it impossible.

I really think the guy I was watching was just getting gas blow back in his face. I was standing at his 3-4 oclock and brass was landing at my feet. I'd stick with right handed just for resale.

I'm a lefty, shot my AR a little to day. The only thing I would like to add is an ambi safety. But like everyone is saying, it's no big deal...

I'm a lefty and have no problem with my right-side eject AR. It's the same as I have always shot in the military, which, BTW, uses the same rifle for left and right handers. If you decide to go with a lefty upper, I know Rock River Arms sells them for about the same price as a righty. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Just to reinforce the opinions offered before me, I, as a lefty shooter, have no problems shooting a righty AR. I get a bit of gas blowback on occasion, but I've never had a shell bounce off my cheek.

Even if you are having problems with ejected shells clipping your cheek, the problem can be easily fixed with a buffer change.

As far as controls go, I actually like using a righty AR as a lefty. Hitting the safety with my left thumb, and operating the charging handle and bolt catch with my left hand almost seems like that's how it was meant to be operated.

For you info, there is a company that makes them LH...but I think
they are more expensive..think it's in Alabama..Most of the time
you'll be fine w/a RH version except for gases and powder..remember to wear glasses..Don

I am right handed but left eye dominate, so i shoot left handed with long guns and shoot cross dominate w/ pistols.
I have RH AR and it hasn't ever bothered me. As HicksHunter mention just some gas blowback thats bout it.

I am a lefty as well. I shoot the RH ARs a lot and have no problem. Only thing is it does seem like I do have to clean em a little more to help with any blow back in my right eye. Oh and cheap ammo will make it worse is this case.

I am a righty but left eye dominate. Never had an issue shooting ARs. That little ramp behind the ejection port is specifically there for left handed shooters as a brass deflector. Check it and you will see little dings in it where it has done it's job. Regarding bolt rifles for left handed shooters, I never had one for 41 years. Now I have one and I am going to put it up for sale here soon. Just can't get used to working the bolt with my left hand takes me so much longer.

Lefty here. Just get a ambi safety, no worries.

At least 20 to 30 L/H shooters at our club including me and most
of my sons...Many are too tight to purchase L/H weapons and shoot
RH rifles and shotguns...It's like I was told..."Everybody is born left-handed, and they don't get right handed until they sin"

My father and I are both left handed. All of our bolt rifles are left handed. My semi auto and other shotguns are right handed. My fathers ar and my ar are both right handed. I think i would prefer a right handed ar over a left handed for some of the reasons mentioned in previous posts. I use my left index finger to work the safety, works good cause finger goes straight from safety to trigger. Or from trigger straight to safety. Left hand to operate the charging handle. Right thumb to work mag release. I use the finger next to my pinky on my right hand to lock the bolt back, and my right middle finger to release the bolt when i have slid a new mag in. It works really well since my right hand is already there from putting in the new mag. As mentioned earlier we can look right into the chamber to see if a round is in it or not. I haven't had any problems with hulls hitting me either.

Now I did have a primer blow on a right handed 50 cal bolt action (it was a barret so the action was in the butt). Being left handed it got me where as if i was right handed it wouldn't have. Cut my nose a little and burned my lips some. If i didn't have a beard i would have been a little bloodier. My face was black from my safety glasses to my chin, was pretty funny to look at.

I say get what ever you are comfortable with, but would think you shouldn't have any problems with a right handed ar. As you mentioned you already have experience with other right handed semi autos.

I am a lefty, and I shoot an Armalite Ar-10, I put an ambi safety on it and I am good to go.

I shoot lefty with right handed AR-15.Never a problem.
The mind learns to adapt and ejected casings are not an issue.

I'm a righty, but i've done enough lefty shooting (around, under cover, laying on my side or back due to terrain, etc) in training that I never found it an issue. Neither did the lefties in my unit.
