I will have some while I wait for BMD. I actually had a buddy who is a constable in Hays CO. post a pretty legit looking print on FB from out near Wimberley. Lions are rare out this way, and if they are here they are juveniles who are lost looking for territory. Most get shot or trapped either coming into the HC or leaving while they pass through sheep and goat country back to the Trans-Pecos

I hope the child is okay. I think I am safe, because cougars do not attack old goats, do they?

Glad the kid is okay. Kind of stupid though hat the place where they stayed wouldn't warn other guest of a lion at large in the area and apparently hungry at that.

Leander, where the boy is from, is about 450 miles from Big Bend, where it took place.

OK, that makes more sense, I saw it on the 10 o'clock news on KEYE news from Austin last night and only caught the end of it.

There are no big cats in Texas....just ask BMD. He never said they didn't exist, but that most sightings were bogus. Most reported sightings are. When investigated, either they turn out to be something else or there is no physical evidence or other documentation (images) to substantiate the claims. It is interesting that the family apparently felt safe in the camping/lodging area. Folks often mention how mountain lions try to avoid people and areas where there are a lot of people. Maybe that is why they felt safe. However, cats can be comfortable in such areas around people when they themselves feel secure. While it doesn't happen all that often, mountain lions have been observed in the Basin for decades. Heck, when I was there in 86 to view Haley's Comet, one walked through the middle of the basin in broad daylight. The sighting did little to promote a positive experience. Unlike most of the visitors staying in the basin who were in campers or stayed in the lodge, I had nothing more than a tiny pup tent. Interesting that the father claimed that park officials were not going to announce that the attack had occurred. Apparently the rangers had made it known that there had been an attempted attack of another family earlier that day. So the attacked boy's family was keeping close tabs on their kids and the attacked boy was actually holding hands with his mother. http://www.statesman.com/news/williamson/mountain-lion-snatches-leander-boy-in-big-bend-2157840.html

Thats discomforting to see. I pray he will be ok after reading he had to be readmitted to the hospital for infection in the cuts and to get rabies shots. Another good reason why my sidearm is on me at all times. And the lodge didnt want to announce the attack, I would make it known about the attack for the lodge!
