You just have to match the receiver to it methinks. i.e. make sure that it is a upper that takes both .223 and .556 .
I'm pretty sure the only snag is that you canNOT match an AR10 (BAR10, etc.) upper with an AR15 lower. However, most of the major brands offer uppers in .223 or .556 that will match their equivalent of the AR10.

I think he is asking about other calibers. I do not have any other caliber uppers, but I think most other calibers out there in the AR upper will work on the .223/5.56 lower, except for the stated above .308 or larger/longer.

I don't have a list of uppers for the AR15 platform but it is NOT caliber specific such as AR15 platform = lower than .308 and AR10 = .308 and larger. There are several AR15 platform uppers that are 30 caliber and larger such as the 300 AAC Blackout, 458 Socom, 50 Beowulf etc... You will have to do some research on exactly what fits what but the best thing to do is figure out what caliber you want and then go from there.

I don't think you can use a .223 lower and make a .50 cal with just a bolt modification. Pretty sure it has to be a AR 10 platform for that?

I don't think you can use a .223 lower and make a .50 cal with just a bolt modification. Pretty sure it has to be a AR 10 platform for that? 50 cal Beowulf upper pins right on the AR15 lower, and is ready to shoot. Uses standard 223/5.56 magazines as well with a little dremeling on the front edge.

450 bushmaster is a decent large bore caliber and bass pro and others usually has them . 458 and 50 Beowulf are good as well but harder to find ammo and it usually cost more . Wish I would have never sold my 450 bushy

We were shooting an 8x8x1/2" thick steel plate yesterday with various AR calibers. The 5.56 would make it swing but the 300 Blackout would almost wrap the chain around the pipe it was hanging from!
Cousin bought a 450 Bushmaster Upper from Cabelas at Christmas for 450.00 last year, shot it 5 times and sold it for 500.00.
