Does anybody know if there's a way to shoot shotgun pellets in a 50 cal BP rifle? I saw a guy shooting a 12 gauge BP shotgun and it looked like a lot of fun. I figured that if anybody makes the little shotcups like the do for reloading shotguns, it would be a new way to play with my BP gun. I have looked at the places I get my BP supplies and all I get are blank stares. I wonder if you could just use wads like I have for my BP revolver? I would like to try it out, but I don't want to take a chance hurting my neat old muzzleloader.

i tryed it years ago. used a light card board for over the shot, and a heavier one for between the powder and shot, it patterned like crap, no consistancy, holes in the patternas big as a basketball. i quit it after the patterning problem,
best thing i can say is get you a ml shotgun, and save the old one for hunting deer.

Been tinkering with the idea of a smoothbore flinter barrel between .50 and .52. Maybe about 32", light weight octagonal to tapered round to fit on a renegade stock. Figure that would be plenty for small game with shot and you could get a round ball going fast enough to be plenty accurate for larger game.

Fred, u didn't mention what .50 you now have but if it has a hooked breech like a Renegade or CVA Mountain rifle, keep ur eyes open for a barrel that is trashed inside. Even a complete gun cheap because of a reusty barrel.

I'm looking for a Renegade flintlock barrel with a bad bore now. Plan is to have it reamed to 20 ga. Lots of components available and shouldn't have much $ in it.

The answer is FLINTLOCK! Now, what was the question?

I use a Knight TK 20000 Black Powder 12 Guage 3 1/2". Knocks the Turkeys down for the count. I am so glad I bought this gun. I use 75 graons of powder. Check it out.

That sounds like a neat idea. I'd never do it to my Mowrey, but I have had a chance to buy a couple of cheap ML's, and I can probably get the barrel reamed out reasonably cheap. I work for a supply company that sells machine shop supplies, and I bet I can find a customer who would do it in exchange for some tools. Now I think I'll go look for a cheap muzzleloader. (Oh, darn, I guess I'll have to go to the gun show. I'm as disappointed as my wife is when she's forced to go to the shoe store) smile

Still think you should check out a Muzzleloading shotgun.

I think I will. Add it to my list of one-of-these-days guns...
