Looking for opinions from the THF on rifle scopes. Looking to keep it between 200-300 dollars. All I want in a scope is up/down and left/right adjustments. No AO, side yardage knob or illumination.

As far as size. 3x9 up to 3x14-16. No bigger than 44mm on the end.

I might get 2 scopes. One for a 280AI and the other for a 308

I went to this web site.

http://swfa.com/Riflescopes-C1443.aspx

To many choices for me

Thanks for the input.

Your choices will start aroung $150 and then go up from there. Redfield and Burris Fullfield II are 2 good scopes to start with in the $150 range 3 x 9 x 40.

for your price range I would pick up a Leupold VX2 3x9x40. Academy had them for $259.99.

There isn't a whole lot of difference between the $150-$300, Once you jump to the $350-$400 you start to get into the bottom of the top. So either get a burris FFII, bushnell elite 3200, nikon prostaff, redfield etc or jump to about double the price and look at the monarch, bushnell 4200, zeiss conquest. From those scopes you don't get a whole bunch more for 4 times the money so just decide on the budget and don't expect huge gains.

If you can get on amazon and get either a bushnell 4200 3-9x40 discontinued or a Nikon Team Primos 3-9x40 that would be the "best" scope you can get that fits in your price range. Both run between $200-$250 on amazon.

Other places to look at is the Sample list at SWFA or the Demo scopes at Cameraland. Sometimes there are some great deals there. Might not be quite the magnification you are looking for but Cameraland got some more of the Vortex Vipers in 2X7 which is one of my favorite scope power range for hunting. especially on compact light weight rifles.

Isn't it funny how day by day nothing changes but when you look back everything is different.

Nowadays people know the price of everything and the value of nothing.

Here's your scope. Last year's best scope bargain was the Bushnell 4200 3x9 from Cabelas at $150. This year's bargain is this Weaver Grand Slam on sale at Natchez.

another vote for Weaver grandslam.

also finding a used scope, good value if you have a good seller.

Forum says "Veteran Tracker". I could not track a garbage truck into a fireworks factory.

I used to be the guy who thought a $100 scope was good enough. In the past two years I have upgraded to 1) Nikon Prostaff 3-9 x 40 new from Cabelas, 1) Nikon Prostaff 3-9 x 50 from Cabelas bargain cave io\n Gonzales, LA for $150 (great deal), and 1) Burris FullfieldII Illuminated Reticle, 3-9 x 40,biught used for $165. Each a little different, and I am VERY satisfied with all. Just bought a Savage Striker .243 with a Bushnell 2-6 x 32 Pistol Scope -- and I'm back to wanted an upgrade on this one. It shoots well, but optics definitely are not as good. But better handguns scopes jump in price a lot faster than riflescopes do! if you buy a reputable brand in your price range I'd bet you will be satisfied. Good luck

Don't overlook the Weaver V-series scopes. These are often overlooked, and are very good scopes for the money. I have two of them, and would not hesitate to buy another one.

Sightron would be another to consider.
