I trained a basset hound and she found every deer we looked for but one over 8 years before we lost her and this was on the 26,000 acre cerf ranch in which we had to track several white tail and mule deer every year. I plan to start on another soon.

Lacy, Curr, lab, hounds, just to name a few. I think it depends on the nature of the specific dog. I know my lazy beagle couldnt track his way to his feed bowl!!! My buddy has a yellow lab that is the best blood dog that I have layed eyes on.

Best one I have worked with was a chocolate Lab. My Brittney loves to blood trail but think the lab was better. I think if the dog likes it about any breed can be a good blood trailing dog.

Now of talking about tracking people a good hound is hard to beat

Most of the smart dogs can be trained, but probably the best would be a hound.

My Lacy dogs do well for me. Put Roush on a 300 yarder the other day he finished up in a quick 30 seconds or so aged for 25 hours and he ain't even a year old.

Best dog is what ever you have, terriers, catahoulas, curs, Lacys, most anything will work if it has a handle and is gamey and gets hauled tons with itss owners, its prob more important to look at what kind of owner the dog has vs the breed of dog, most people have no clue when it comes to trailing game.

You know what they say about bragging on the web, if you dont have video on utube of a dog trailing a 25 hour blood trail in 30 seconds it did not happen..... 900 feet divided by 30 seconds is 30 feet per second, you might want to post the video up of the jet powered Lacy dog????

Well I wasn't alone. Maybe somebody else who was there will chime in.

He is still a puppy though and I track off lead. I just unload the dog put him on the trail and he's going full speed with his nose stuck to the ground while I'm trying to keep up. I'm the only thing slowing the dog down when tracking on lead.

By the way next time I'll get it on video. I didn't time it but the person I was with said it was around 30 seconds but jokingly. We both know it was under a minute. He is a good dog.

I'm sure you'll state how I'm back peddling now but I know my dog and what he is capable of.

Most Lacy dogs are jet powered you didn't know? cool

Even with video I wouldn't be able to prove to you the track was aged 25 hours. If you want to come on out and do some tracking give me a call you can see the dog yourself.

Well is seemed like 30 seconds! I'm fat and out of shape so trying to run and keep up with a lacy in waste deep grass had me a little winded.

Dog jumped out of the 4wheeler and his nose hit the ground . He ran as fast as he could the entire way. He made both 90 degree turns like he was on a rope. Since he was tracking off lead we couldn't slow him down.
