Well I am not sure where to post this but it is an idea that has come togather very nicely. I wanted a 100 to 1000 yard range on our lease and had a perfect place on a power line right of way. I did not want to spend a fortune and holes come dear so this is what I came up with:

The sled is set up at 47" wide and 7'6" long so you can easily haul it in a pickup. It uses two 2X4 studs and 1/2 sheet of plywood for a target board. Easily replaceable. You can drop the pull ring over a trailer hitch ball on your wheeler or Jeep and take the sled where ever you want it. The bench is set up to use three 10' decking boards. Three 5' and six 2 1/2'. It is VERY solid. You can adjust the height of the shooting bench to accommodate a $10 Wal Mart folding chair and level the bench at the same time. On number next I would use some cee purlin in the center to hold some 4X4 & 2X4 blocks for leveling the sled and weld them on top of the rails. If you use gongs the cee purlin will also be a good place to store your paint (inside a piece of heavy pipe). I used a lot of scrap metal but still spent less than $100. That is a yard stick in the photos.

Great job on both. Bench looks great with all the leg clearance and being adjutable. Nice up

Sled is super job also. Nice and easy to move or change out supports...
Make sure you cap the pipes, or water will freeze and split pipes.

Would love to see your gongs or silhouette's, action targets, when get them done..

Bset is the scrap iron part cheers up

Bartender, bring me anything except brake fluid, cause I don't plan on stopping!

Thanks for the kind words. The sled with target installed is very light, no problem loading it in a pickup or moving it around on the ground by yourself. I had really planned to fill the pipes with water for ballast, if they freeze and bust then so what. More concerned with wasp with the open ends. That was another reason for suggesting the cee purlin - I will probably fill one up with rocks or fire wood for added ballast. On the next one I will put lock nuts on all four sides of the 2X4 receiver.

Another cute trick is that I hang a plumb bob from the side of one of the 2X4s on a nail and a line level on the scope base to get a true vertical adjustment on my cross hairs. One degree off is huge from 100 to 1000 yards.

Check this out for gongs:

Cold roll steel will not cut it with 210 gr. bullets from a 300 Wby.
