its a pole w/ a modified end to hold like a 45 long colt shell & when they "bang" it on the gators skull it shoots off the bullet, killing the gator

We had a guy on our lease last year that brought some gator "jaw" meat for a cookout. Absolutely outstanding. It is considered the filet mignon of gator meat and at $18/lb I see why! Fries up much more tender than the tail meat. If you get a chance, try some out....

Very cool. Used to have one for scuba diving. Wasn't called a bang stick, but was close to your example. 4 foot pole with a marine bullet in the end for sharks.

I used to alligator hunt for a living, before the prices dropped back in the early 90's. We would use a line, and shoot them with a .22lr.

We shot them in Port O Near Seadrift . It was the best hunt I have ever been on Lots of gators down there . Maggie we shot are gators with pistols after we caught them on hooks tied to the bank . We hunted with Capt. James Cunningham and are going back this sept. to get smaller gators that taste better. The big ones are not very good to eat but are tons of fun to hunt! DPD25 you are right about the jowls they are the best part to eat . From what I hear most of the time thats what your eating in restaurants not the tails . Im trying to find a good picture of mine to post and will do so asap ! If anybody is interested in a hunt send me a pm and I will give you contact info for James !

Leg quarters 6" above the water from a thin cable with a steel treble hook. A twently two round later and you've got tail for the grill. Yeah it's good fried, but it's also hard to beat grilled tail steaks.

Restaurants use back mostly I hear.
