Was driving home from work yesterday and spotted three elk moving across a neighbors pasture! Owner must have storm fence damage or he cant afford to feed em and let em out. Then talked to a friend of mine to make sure they werent some from his high fence down the road off Sabine river bottom...they werent but he told me that as many as a dozen have been spotted moving around my area for the past six months. I know its a pipe dream but if the redneck bubbas in our part of the county would leave em alone be neat to hear em bugling this fall. Like I said pipe dream, soon as they show up on the right property someone will be eating elk steak for supper. Shame too would be interesting for there to be a small ET elk herd in the river bottom.

America is at that awkward stage. It's too late to work within the system, but too early to shoot the bastards. Claire Wolfe

Yep, if I ever see an elk on my deer lease - it's gonna get in my tummy!

For a few years there has been some aoudad that run around free range in my area. They escaped from a drive through wildlife park that was up the road from me about 5 miles away. I still see a few game cam pics from some friends of mine in the area. Some of them have got to be pretty big. There was reportedly about 12 at one time and it got to as many as 36 that we had seen. Now we only see about 6-8 at a time.

There are a few free range ones running around north of leakey. Couple ranches in the area are big enough that they stay around and get some protection. They are a pain frankly, we had them on our ranch for a while, and they destroyed feeders like nobody's business.

We've had our young bull elk get out of the HF at our ranch and he wAs out for 7 days for shure and we went back 2 weeks later and he was back In yes it's a new ( 1 year old HF 8' high ) guess they're stronger than we think he can get out if he wants but all his girls are staying by the protein feeder and not go a leave so I doubt he will but that may explain some of the elk not being behind a hf all the time u see them

Thanks for your honesty...many of my neighbors have the same mindset. This area is chopped up with small 5 to 20 acre properties, too populated for them to have a chance. Subdivisions, trailer parks, ect. The same reason I will be selling out when I retire and buying retirement spot on a dead end road off the beaten path surrounded by larger properties for a buffer. Typical ET geographics only hope they would have would be stay in the river bottom with the mosquitoes, hogs, and snakes. Just a pipe dream...would be awesome just to hear one bugling in early fall. I get to hunt my friends 1k acre high fence for past three years as he needs his herd thinned due to the current economy hurting sales. Otherwise I too would probably pull the trigger on one if it crossed my fence. smile
