The problem is if you ground check and it is a wolf, then the U S Fish and Game Department would get you for killing an endanger species!!! Cool picture though!!!

This. He does look a little odd though. Ears seem to be more round than they should be. Put him on the ground ,and get some close-ups.

My uncle got a picture of a red wolf-yote hybrid several years ago in southeast Texas. I'll see if I can find the picture and post it up.

found it..

IDK, that pic looks pretty similar to me. Granted, I’m no expert, but the rounded ears, long legs and possible socks on the back make it stand out to me. Perhaps just a yote or a hybrid, but just saying.

May never see it again, but probably will ground check him, if given the chance. To your point, Seadog, I definitely thought about that….don’t want to put a dent in the Endangered Species list, do anything unethical or worse have to answer to TP&W or U.S. Fish and Game.

Not to stir the gumbo any more, but back in the early 80’s on this same property, my Grandfather shot, what they thought at the time, was without question some kind of grey wolf. This thing was bigger than a full grown German Sheppard. We thought about taking it to the state park at Fairfield, but they decided against it. At about 12, after seeing what was lurking out in the woods, for some years, I was pretty skittish walking to my stand in the dark from the house, even though it was only about 200 yards out the back door. Hope the statues of limitations have run out on that deal.
