After seeing a tree kill the deer on another post, there has to be other strange ways that you have seen that lead to the death of a deer. We used to hunt on a place that had a cement windmill tank built sort of into the side of a hill. We were driving by on a road above the now dry cement tank, which was round and about 5 feet deep. I glanced into the tank and there was the skeleton of a 10 point buck in the tank. I guess the buck jumped or fell into the tank from the top side and since he could not see where he was going to land when he jumped out, he never got out of there. What other strange ways have you seen a deer die?

My brother-in-law killed a nice buck with his .300 WM at my place this past fall. That may not seem such a strange way for a deer to die unless you have ever seen my brother-in-law shoot. smile

I don't have pics of any, but I have found deer dead hung in fences, in feed pens hog panels, locked together from fighting and hung in the fork of a tree. Had a friend find a buck once while doing a helicopter survey that was hung in shinnery oak. He saw him and thought he was laying down bedded with his rack twisted in the shinnery in Sept. They landed and he was dead laying in a normal position. I found a dead buck once on the Friday before opening day in the Hill County once. I had just driven by this spot maybe 15 minutes before and he was not there. It was circle road around a hill top that I went around to check the corn feeder and the blind. When I came back around he was laying right to my left against a brush pile about 15' off of the road. I stopped and he was looking right at me. I threw a glove at him and he never flinched. Got out and poked him with my rifle and he was dead. I looked for bullet holes and nothing. I grabbed his antler and drug him away and there was blood under his hindquarters. He had been stuck 8 time in the rear end from loosing a fight I guess.

Those were BDC..Before Digital Cameras. Usually more PO'd about finding a dead deer than worry about a picture at the time.

I was at Enchanted rock when one fall off the back side of Main Dome. Apparently the dome birds spooked him and he took off, got steeped out and became airborn. I was going up Ripple and he went down Mexican Radio...

Have seen them with their hind legs caught between the top two strands of barbed wire fences. I think this happens when they attempt to jump the fence and their hind legs come down through the wires and they get caught.

Driving back home last summer, a fawn was crossing the road when I was driving thru the neighborhood. Across the street was the neighborhood pool (fenced in), and as he ran across towards the pool side, he slipped on the concrete and smacked the metal fence. Never moved another muscle. Didn't think to take pics.. was too busy trying to understand what just happened.

I have seen a pic from an email of buck in a San Antonio subdivision that was skewered on an iron fence. Is this the pic of the 2 locked bucks your are talking about? It is not strange just to bucks found dead.

I have let a couple out that were stuck like that...make sure you are on the opposite side of the fence, because they will fight. I assume they were too exhausted to run...

Hate finding deer stuck in fences.

New Years day this year we found one that must have ran into a tree and broke his neck. It happened next to a feeder where I had a friend hunting the night before. The buck wasn't there that night

Here is a pic he took that night. Notice there is no buck under the mesquite tree behind the feeder

The next morning around 10:00 am

It was! I called the guy who was sitting there and he said he never saw it. A couple of days later, he was going through some pics his girlfriend took. He sent me the pic showing that it wasn't there.

We also had a yearling buck that got hung while jumping into a pig trap. Somehow, a big pig got in there and the drop gate got unwired and he got stuck in there. While driving around on that Friday night to pick up camera cards, I noticed the white belly. I walked over to the trap and heard a loud grunt. As I got closer I heard something hit the wire panels. I wasn't expecting anything because we wired the trap open before we left the ranch the week before. I walked back to the ranger to get a spotting scope and rifle. I then saw the big boar and took him out with the AR

grin How do you know that this buck did not stage the scene and he was not playing possum only to get up and run off when Tye left? I seem to remember Tye saying he left him there that day. popcorn
